My first trip away from SoWal since moving there

:bang: :bang: Dang! It was an awful drive... The kids started the "Are we there yet?" as we got on I-10! Zoe had to poop on the side of the road before we even got to 231:idontno: ... glad I had wipes! A 6 1/2 hour trip took 8-8 1/2 hours!

And heading to GA was simply hail. I am here, on Lake Oconee, for another day and leaving to ATL on Monday morning and then headed home after an appt, but it's MISERABLE! My heart is in SoWal.

Because I haven't been here in over 2 years... I can't even head to Athens (my other "home," 30 minutes away) for fear of being seen as being AWOL. :bang: :bang:

I feel like Alice in Wonderland and I wish I was home in SoWal! Just love it for me until we get back! Not leaving again for a really long time!

You are so funny! We moved 4 years ago and we haven't been back to Michigan either! No weddings, funerals or graduations to HAVE to go for.
Since my parents are here for a couple of months a year, we get to see them. We see Aunt Steph, Unka Dave and kids the most out of all our family. They love to come see us! Now Lowcarb (another aunt) has bought here and is lurking. I'm waiting for her first post. Besides, I have grayt friends from Michigan like Paula who I get to see here too!

Did you feel like you were cheating on SoWal?

it's true that leaving sowal is kinda hard to do for locals. we might miss out on something. we do make ourselves leave town - usually just a long weekend - a few times a year or so - to get a break from work and routine. we do need a vacation. even from sowal. but its so strange that we don't really feel a strong need to ever leave town for vacation, as we once felt when living elsewhere.

my best friend plans her trips so she can be back for the weekend in sowal. and she's never gone longer than 2 days if she can help it. unless its a major trip.

leaving SoWal is highly over-rated, especially for a beach vacation. I know so many SoWallers who cuss themselves after going to other beaches for vacation, vowing never to do that again.

 Well................. maybe that was more than 2 words

I think if I lived at the beach I'd want to vacation in the mountains or out west. Something totally different :idontno: . I wouldn't be too hard on GA, the weather has been unusually bad :bang:

SJ,
I normally would say I agree with you, but gotta disagree on this one....
If we only had better surf! The majority of my vacations are to other beaches. I love SoWAl but if you love to surf it get pretty depressing :bang:

agree bobbyj, when we do force ourselves away from sowal, we really enjoy other beach communities. especially ones with real fishing and seafood available. for me, it's all about the beauty of the coastal environment and the food...

sure, other beaches are different, but no less beautiful. especially beaches that are rather private and dog friendly... - a real getaway.

 Thanks from all of y'all... We made it back in one piece. It felt sooooo good to come home. Mom & dad said that the girls wanted to "stay here" (meaning GA):idontno: when they were tired, crying and wanting daddy Sunday night. Both of them said they were ready to go home (SoWal) but that they wanted papa and grandmama to come visit them here.

I did get to escape to Athens for a little while, which gave me a mental break from the fact that I am an alien in my family.

Filing for Hunter's birth certificate was really easy yesterday and the trip back was a breeze. Of course, Zoe had to  poop:eek: on the side of the road AGAIN.... AFTER I tried to take her to the bathroom at Zaxby's in Newnan. (Steelemama, she just wouldn't have it!) Hunter slept from Newnan to Dothan. I was in heaven. We got back at 4:30. Daddy's music helped soothe munchkins in the midst of any mayhem. All three of them would get peacefully silent when they listened to his music.

I tried to talk my family (parents, brothers, SILs) into coming down here this summer to visit. I showed mom picks of SoWal online, etc. One SIL won't travel b/c she's pregnant:idontno: ... Heck I lived away from my "home" in a hotel for 2 months (June & July) while pregnant and delivered Hunter 3 days after getting back home. And for some reason they travel in packs and so none of them are coming because she won't come.

I did have nice talks with my mom... I think she feels connected to me now that I have 3 kids and understand what she went through.

BUT... they made a comment that wouldn't go well in SoWal at all. They said they left items out on the beach last summer while being at/on St. George Island last summer, even though they were asked not to because of the sea turtles. They said, "Well why not, everyone else was doing it?" I had to educate them a little bit.:nono1:

All I can say is leaving SoWal is HIGHLY OVERRATED and won't be happening any time soon. ;-) I'm glad to be back.

I'm glad you're back where you belong, Organic Mama! Although it was worth it all if you and your mother had a good talk. I agree that leaving SoWal is highly overrated, inasmuch as returning TO SoWal is a platinum rating. Always. See you in a few weeks!
