Since you live in Dallas, I'm surprised that you seem to have an anti-status symbol, anti-trendy attitude.

I will answer that one for you BR...she has a mind of her own. And that is why we love her. Just because she lives in Dallas, she does not have to be trendy or live up to someone elses' status symbol!!!! She is her own non-pompous self!

Is that really like that in Dallas?

It is like that everywhere, if you choose for it to be...it doesn't have to be though. It is how one chooses to live their life. You can follow the crowd, you can try and keep up with the jones' or you can choose not too. It is your choice!

No, I was serious. Every time I'm in Dallas, I feel so underdressed, even at the grocery store and even back when I used to dress to the nines. It just appears to me on my visits there that everyone at a certain socio-economic level and above is very trendy and very status-conscious.

There was a time when I was into wearing Chanel from head to toe. Now seeing someone dressed like that makes me roll my eyes (and head-to-toe St. John has always made me puke). Now I am totally not into clothes - I am into my family and spending as much time as possible at the beach.

Whew! I'm glad I'm over in Arlington/Mansfield. I really had no idea about Dallas. I don't get out much though. 😀

It might be someone else's second home, too. :floor:

Oh please...I'd take Barneys, Bergdorf's and Saks over Neiman's any day.

It is. Kimmi, be nice now. NM is a great store. Best service ever! I like your stores as well. In fact, we used to have a Bloomingdales and I was a big fan! So sad when it left. Barney's was here and gone so fast it was a blur!

Please. You think I can shop there. I just get my brows done at Bergdorf's. I'll splurge from time to time on something I can't live without...but with rent that dwarfs a mortgage it's tough.

I do love browsing though...

We call "browsing" something else- "touching". We go shopping and touch the expensive stuff, but don't buy!

Oh, I know what you mean. We had a store named Jacobson's, well on par with Barney's and NM and a whole slew of other notables, and it folded. I was distraught. They had twice yearly sales so I only ever had to go shopping two times a year (which made me very happy). There's a Saks in its place now, but it's so bor-ing to me after Jacobson's. Their buyer isn't on the same level.

Our Jacobson's closed too. But y'all got a Saks to replace it in Indy, which is better than what replaced ours- Von Maur. I haven't quite figured out what they are- great shoe department, but everything else is kinda average.

OOOOH, now you've said my favorite word: shoes! We have a Nordstrom's downtown and they have the best shoes. Not that I don't check out DSW all the time. ;-) You're going to have to come shopping up here in Indianapolis with me one day! We have the best sales here.

And talk about service, we have Nordstrom. They treat you as tho you are the only person in the store. And it really seems sincere! I think they have little cameras watching their sales people - to make sure you're treated so well!! My husband used to scoff when I told him about their customer service. He bought shoes there and won't go anywhere else now! (Even tho he dosen't buy that many shoes!)

Except for the last 2 years, we have come up at least once a year to shop- sometimes with family and combine shopping w/ the Children's Museum (we stay at the Keystone Sheraton so the kids can swim), sometimes with friends, or with my mom. Y'all have great downtown. One area I want to go to is Broad Ripple- have never had the time, and I hear there are some great stores and galleries. So I may see ya this winter!
