Rats, thought this was a poll. I'd still vote for gulf exploration and drilling.

Some people would dig up their mother's grave if they thought they'd find oil.

Let's see who changes their position
If you hear of a position change on the issue please post it on this thread.

Good luck finding any stores open for you to shop in if this spill hits our beach.

So even with an oil well leaking thousands of gallons a day into the Gulf, they still voted yes.
Short of actually installing an oily bucket of crude over their seats ala the sword of Damocles, I don't know how else we can make them see reason on the issue.

NO, this vote was last summer. I just want people to know who voted for it in the past and who has been speaking in favor of oil up to the spill. Of course everyone will change their tune.

Oops, I just saw April 27 and couldn't believe they voted that way with what was going on.

Dave, didn't know if you saw this earlier today....
Looks like both front-runners for our next Governor are stating they will Veto any legislation to lift the current ban. Hopefully, they will keep their word.
Capitol News Service ? Blog Archive ? Oil Spill Changing Gov?€™s Position
Legislative leaders plan to visit oil rigs this summer to do their own research on the risk Florida faces if the legislature decides to lift the ban. Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill McCollum came out strong against oil drilling today. McCollum says if he’s elected he will veto any legislation lifting the ban. Democratic frontrunner Alex Sink has been a long time opponent of drilling in Florida.

Matt Gaetz sends a "Constituent Advisory"
Interesting coming from a guy who accepted oil lobby contributions and supported oil drilling PRIOR to the oil spill. Thanks but no thanks Representative Gaetz. We won't be relying on you for our information regarding this disaster. There are many more reliable sources. You have been doing a lot since you took office to look like you are doing a lot. Those in favor of oil drilling might vote for you in November; I don't know of anyone else who will.
Constituent Advisory from Representative Matt Gaetz
In response to the oil rig explosion off the coast of Louisiana that has spilled thousands of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, our office is issuing the following constituent advisory.
After speaking with the Department of Environmental Protection their initial trajectory does not have the oil spill affecting the state of Florida for the next 72 hours due to current wind patterns and oceanic conditions. The following is a list of preliminary actions the State of Florida and the federal government are taking to deal with this event:
? State and federal agencies have set up a command post in Pensacola and have begun staging resources and strategizing tactics if oil does enter Florida waters. British Petroleum, the company which owns the rig, has also dedicated resources on the ground in Pensacola to aide with environmental mitigation.
? State and federal agency command posts have also been established along the gulf coast with a unified command post being established in Mobile.
? Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Mike Sole has personally coordinated with and been on-site at the command post in Mobile and has fully participated in all planning efforts.
? Our office has established a primary contact with the FDEP and necessary federal agencies to disburse information in real time to residents in Northwest Florida.
? We continue to work with the Northwest Florida legislative delegation and the FDEP to ensure that all necessary resources are available.
We will continue to keep you informed of the situation as information develops. If you have any other questions or concerns regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to contact our office at (850) 833-9328 or (850) 488-1170.
It is an honor to serve you.

While I understand that Alex has been clear on her stance prior to the spill, my point is that both of the key candidates are now stating that they would Veto any bill that is presented to them by our legislators. My hope is that they will keep that promise regardless of which ends up in office. That is critical, because I do believe that it will be presented again next session by the oil bought republican leadership.

Crist's position does not matter
One thing that really has no bearing: Gov. Crist will not be Governor after November so his position for or against drilling has no bearing at all.

Count on Alex
I would count on Alex keeping her word over BM any day. I fully support Alex Sink in her candidacy for Governor. Dave

Skunky
I thought I heard this morning that this thing could be gushing oil for weeks. Don't look now, but tropical storms in May are not unheard of...all those 'assets' BP has in place will have their asses elsewhere if there is an approaching storm, leaving the poor coast wide open for a disaster.

One thing that really has no bearing: Gov. Crist will not be Governor after November so his position for or against drilling has no bearing at all.EXACTLY....lets not forget this when he runs for a senate seat. He became governor with a bunch of promises that he left behind when seeking funding (from Big Oil? maybe, maybe not?) for a higher office. Now he wants to jump back to the "popular, peoples" side of the fence. All I can say is.. "sorry Charlie.. you showed your colors..."

oh and here is a nice site if anyone cares to check out oil rig, etc, disasters...

JodiFL: With due respect, there is a very high probability that either Crist or Rubio will be the next Senator. All polls are showing that Meek is trailing badly.
If I have to choose, I will vote for the lesser of the two evils.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't your president speak in favor of it recently?

Not just recently. President Obama has been in favor of lifting the ban since 2008.
