Obama a Partisan President

Republican Senator Graham said today that President Obama lost his "moral authority" because he showed himself to be a "partisan president".

Does anyone else find this a strange thing to say within the context of the healthcare reform bill (the same one that not a single Republican voted for)?

I mean- any other president with any other congress could have proposed that we make Newark the new Capitol city and at least a half dozen in the opposing minority party would have voted for it. So how could Graham keep a straight face and point out any Dem's partisianship???

I get it that reconciliation rubbed folks wrong. But all that did was get us to a vote. Everyone still had a vote.

So Mr. Andy.....if I understand you correctly, you are comfortable with receiving Socialized medicine for free and that you are willing to state that the Socialized medicine that your family received was excellent!

hmm.........;-)
Get one thing straight, Arkiehawg. I don't like your attempt to spin what we both know is not true. You are being a total rump in your efforts. It is medicine provided by private physicians and organizations but paid for with federal funds, yes. You have never, I'll bet, lived under a pure socialized medicine system. I have. My second son was born under one. He and I still suffer from mis-care. I go on personal experience first, information second because I find a lot of it to be inaccurate or purposely misleading. Your posts often fall into the latter category. Again, I reiterate, it is a promise made to us when we enlisted but until a few years ago ignored. What don't you understand about that? Good day, SIR!

Lighten up Soldier.....hence the wink ;-)

I'm not stating at all that you don't deserve the medical benefits from serving. In fact, I strongly believe that the military retirees deserve even more benefits than they get. For that matter, I believe active military deserve far better pay than they currently are receiving.

My point has nothing to do with Socialized medicine. But, in fact government issued medicine is being stated by some as socialized. It has also been stated by many, that government medicine would be of less quality than privatized medicine.

I say BS to both aspects. Government medicine has been received by military and federal employees for years. That doesn't make it socialized. Expanding government medical care to those who can't afford it or at a reasonable cost isn't any more socialized than what has been distributed for decades through M-Care and State M-Caid.

VAMC medical care (government) has improved dramatically over the past couple of decades. In fact, the best CHI care available today is through the VAMC.

With regards to your comment that you were promised the care. Then rightfully so, you should receive it. I'm glad that you are.
Stating that, there are many, many retired civilians that were promised adequate healthcare when they retired and they don't receive it.....

They also deserve to receive what was promised.....

Sorry, I didn't see the wink. I was just angry about the fact that you were indicating we were receiving something we didn't deserve. Obviously, I was wrong. I apologize.

I can assure you that private funds will still be coming from banks, student loans are a very complex financial model, and there's just no way the banks would have allowed this.

The government will take over the servicing portion of loans, this means that interest subsidies normally paid by the government to private servicers will stop.

I just don't understand why would anyone find fault with this.

The spin is that they are taking over private industry and stopping banks from offering private loans. The fact is you will still be able to obtain completely private student loans with all the benefits they entail:

- Higher interest rates
- Lack of deferral even while in school
- Lack of payment options

Those will still be available and rest assured that companies like SallieMae will continue to lobby to keep student loan caps the same as they were in the early 80's so that many people will have to use that option.
