Did anyone see the oil tanker passing by today?
We are at Seagrove beach and you can see it is a huge ship and it looked like an oil tanker through my binoculars. I worked in the gulf for three years on a research vessel so I am familiar with different types of ships. It did not look like a freighter.

Well, it was hard to tell. I could see it from my house but could not tell if it was a cargo ship or oil tanker. I have never seen one before but I have only lived here about 8 months total.

I saw it too around noon headed East. It was high on the horizon. Many miles out, but certainly visible. Made me wonder if someone was about to start a beach restoration somewhere. Big, big boat.

I saw a couple of large vessels out there July 2-12 (and I'm not talking about the fireworks barges). Whenever we go on the Capt. Anderson's Dolphin Cruise, they make a point to explain that freighter traffic has increased in the Port of Panama City since Katrina.

Full oil tankers ride really low in the water. It would be hard to see much of anything except the superstructure. If it was riding really high or you could see it well, it was probably a container ship of some sort. Most of the oil in the area is delivered via barge if I remember correctly...
