We just got home from a little shopping. We saw people already camping out at Circuit City and Target. It's like 40 degrees and raining really hard. Can you say crazeee? I played the PS3 at Target tonight. The graphics are niiice.

I hear the Wii may be hard to get a hold of this weekend without a preorder but should be easier in the next couple of weeks.

There was not such a thing as a video game system when my brother and I were growing up. We entertained ourselves playing outside until dark with the neighborhood kids. Or played board games, or with his race car set, or electric football game or I played with my dolls or Easy Bake Oven. My son has had just about every game system there is. He has some game system now. I have his old Sega Genesis upstairs. There are two games I like to play on it and that is Sonic Spinball and Sonic the Hedgehog.

what's this ?
The classic Louis Vuitton handbag (called "Speedy"), but in the Daumier (checkered) pattern. All of the fake LV is in the classic LV pattern, but you never see fake Daumier. That's why she wants Daumier. The MARTA crowd hasn't figured that one out yet. If you know the ATL, you'll understand the previous sentence.

If I ever cave and buy a dam game for my child or anyone to play on the TV for hours on end, I hope someone shoots me in the head. period...

I wish I had the power of your convictions. I must admit that I totally cave in when it comes to the wishes of my miracle child. I know that I am a failure as a parent for doing so, and I'm not doing her any favors, but I just can't overcome the desire to please her.

No, you are not a failure as a parent for caving, and I don't mean to insinuate such. Its just that I would so much rather spend that kind of $$ on more meaningful endeavors, and I hope that I will when the time comes. I think I will, because I've already made the decision of very limited tv time, and certianly no computer til you need it, and at 4 years, you don't need it....

I hear ya. Unfortunately, the parental decisions get more complicated and expensive as the children get older. Such as a place in Midtown Atlanta versus a closet-sized room at the sorority house where the child can't study because the roommate and her bf are having a "relationship" in the same room.

I had a playstation 2 in the house, so I bought Spyro for my nephew to play when he was almost 4. But I played it with him, and we had funn. Only on days when we couldn't go outside.
My sister was a little annoyed at first because it was all he talked about, but he needed the eye/hand coordination.
Then instead of a Playstation, I got him the game set that is educational, I can't remember the name. Learned counting and spelling etc. with Spiderman, shopping and about how to handle money.
He's in Kindegarten now, and he is advanced in reading and other skills, and I think the games helped. He had funn learning.
He does have a playstation now, but he only gets to play with it if he was well behaved, and is put on timer.
Now my other nephews, that's a different story. He's 10 and has been on the waiting lits for that We game, but he has been saving his money for a year to get it from Birthdays and stuff.
But we didn't have all this stuff. We grew up inventing games, and using our imaginations.
These kids are addicted to these games.

Little IBD has a Leap pad computer game that hooks up the the tv. I am impressed with how educational the game is. However I set the oven timer and when it goes off, game is off.

I love the educational aspect, and limited time spent playing (we may do this later on). also, your other nephew saving his money for something he really wants - this is great and goes far toward making him truly appreciate it. :clap_1:

:clap_1: Has to be done or they'll be on it all day and night.

He did save his money all and I am happy about that, but when he gets it, he's gonna have to get games for it, and frankly they cost a fortune. Not to mention that he'll probably spend hours playing with that when he could have been reading books, doing puzzles, and practicing magic tricks.
The kid was accepted in Mensa, and I am afraid he'll just get more hooked. My other sister does not set limits with him.

I echo all of the above in our household. (Spyro ) Even at 16, he still has to finish all homework, music, before playstation. As a matter of fact several years ago, we limited it to only weekends and he adjusted to that fine (eventually). You just have to have VERY firm limitations and rules. I almost think as a result, he rarely watches any TV at all.

No, I think I will skip the waiting and go on EBAY and buy one for $10,000. I heard that was the most recent high price paid.

i can't believe people will pay that much money for these things...i know my parents would never had paid $600 for anything like that when we were kids....
Maybe not, but my parents forked over the $99 to buy us a Pong. In today's dollars, I would guess that to be around $1200. :idontno: Totally just a guess.

One reason why people are camping out, other than they are jobless and crazy, is that even the big box stores like Best Buy and Walmart are only getting about 25-30 units per store.

Actually, most probably are NOT jobless (yes, some are) but where my husband works (an international communications/cell phone co.) there were many, many engineers that took vacation days to camp out since Tuesday night waiting for the big day. He siad most of them are young, single guys.

Hey I had all kinds of people helping me find the Nerf Bow & Arrow one year. I may have camped out for it. I still have the box and every year I wrap something of my sons in it. It's a weird little joke, but we are weird.

I think moderate guidelines help with the Playstation. I used to limit the amount of time my son could play on his. I am not a huge fan of anything electronic that removes people from interacting with their family, with the noted exception of the computer and Sowal. That's different.

he settled for an xbox 360 plus optional hd dvd player plus about $200 in accessories ! hell, i can't even afford to make an ornament for the exchange now....
