"We didn't come from money. For us it's just going to be a huge relief to know I'm going to be able to pay my electric bill, my gas bill," Shaw told the Associated Press. "It's like a weight lifted. I had bills at home I didn't know how they were going to be paid."
He plans to use some of the money to pay bills and take his children to Disney World.

Shaw said he bought the $5 ticket Wednesday at the Break Time convenience store where he works in Marshall, a central Missouri town about 80 miles east of Kansas City.

Hmmmmmm

Now, what was he thinking spending 17% of everything he had on a lottery ticket? Before he had paid his bills?

This truly is a charming story~~~~~~~~~

P.S. Is minimum wage really $7.25US? I had no idea!

And based on a news story I saw on msnbc a few months back, clerks win lotteries at an amazing percentage. Undercover cameras showed most were stealing winning tickets from actual winners.

You know, I have wondered about this. I had a lotto ticket a few months back that was good for something like $7. I even checked on the Florida Lottery website. I am not the smartest person of all time, but I think I got the idea when the website said that if you got 'x' number of numbers, you won 'y' dollars. I handed that ticket to a store clerk and they were like "sorry, not a winner". Hmmm. Well, I wasn't going to protest and just bought my Mountain Dew and moved along...but I wonder if maybe a little winner here, a little winner there, it would add up.

The machines now have a customer facing display. So when the clerk scans the ticket to see of it's a winner it shows up on the screen- "not a winner" when you're not...

"Not a winner." Ouch! That's gotta hurt the old self-esteem.

I was at the store last night. Watched a family buy all their groceries with food stamps, and then, the father pulled out a wad of cash and bought 80 dollars worth of lotto tickets. That should be illegal...

In Florida, half that money then goes to provide scholarships for people that could plan and afford that for themselves.
