hey old farts: isn't it amazing to have watched a musician like Prince become a legend? reading this thread, and remembering all of his hits makes me realize that we've grown up with this guy, and watched all this. I guess I was in my mid-late twenties when I was really rocking to his music.

I agree Tootsie..I remember when 1999 was a huge hit. It was my favorite Prince song at the time...and I used to think...man 1999 is a long way away!!! Boy, did that time fly by!!!!

You are ageless in SoWal land!!! :clap_1:

I have found that many younger people reach way back in music and find genres they like. I am always amazed at the artists my children are listening to.

I thought Prince was terrific. I was smiling and shaking it the entire time. I love that song about the beret(?) raspberry(?)....wished he'd played that. It is he!! losing one's mind. :bang:

next time we're all drinking and smoking and dancing - wherever we may be - we must remember to shake it to Prince...

Lol, I don't mean everyone else is old. I just mean, to really enjoy Prince, you probably had to be around during his peak. You have to relate it to something nostalgic (the concerts, high school, etc...), kwim? I might have been in Kindergarten during his peak.

I think the year with U2 was great. I wouldn't mind seeing a legend brought in with someone new like The Fray to mix it up a bit and attempt to appeal to a larger age range.
I knew you did not mean it to be mean.... I just thought wow, I am getting old but I still think i am young...

I'm just afraid they're not going to do younger acts anymore because of what happened with the last one (J Timberlake/J Jackson). Since then it's been three in a row of acts that IMO really focus on a much more mature crowd.

Notice the change in production. Now that they've ditched MTV out of fear and probably Disney for the same reason, if they stick with this new producer, we'll be seeing Hair Bands next!
hey, hair bands!!!:clap_1: I loved those as well.....

Wow! I did not know that at 40 I could be included in the "much more mature crowd!" I LOVED watching Prince and so did my 17 year old daughter. His guitar skills rocked! :clap_1:

Beware, ckhagen, you'll be in the "much more mature crowd" before you know it.

I had L'il Pea #3 on December 28, 1999. The OB ward was absolutely crammed because so many women had planned Y2K pregnancies trying to have the first Millenium baby. Shoot, who's that organized? For that matter, who plans pregnancies? :floor:

They are going with the acts that are the most well known. The Super Bowl got more than 40 percent of households tuning in last night and trust me, that audience does not want to see young hip up and comers, unless it's an American Idol. It is what it is, as they say.

MTV (owned by Viacom, like CBS) must no longer be involved because of the debacle the last time it was on CBS. Disney would only be involved if the game were on ABC. I thought whoever produced last night's show did a fantastic job. Prince is "old school" to many but he is an ageless and outstanding performer, and IMO the show simply rocked. The stage, the lighting -- everything was incredible, and I could not believe how quickly they got the set up and out. I counted six minutes after his set closed until the field was totally clear. That is just unbelievable.

It was the first time in many years I didn't think the Super Bowl halftime show was super cheesy. :clap_1: I even hated U2 in 2002. I thought they were annoying. (But I do enjoy U2 in general.) Prince was great!

it's funny you mention the set, br. mr audie is obsessed with how quickly it was set up on the field and then removed. he was more worried about that and how the ladies in the black outfits we able to dance on that slick surface in stiletto heeled boots than he was the game

Let's discuss cassettes. What do we do with them? We found boxes of them when we moved. Our cars don't have cassette decks.

Attending OWCC and "working" (aka socializing) at Seagrove Village Market, 1983/1984. We played "1999" on my 21st birthday.

Wow, how time flies.
