Has anyone involved in leadership for the Republicans spoken out concerning the grossly inappropriate behavior of the repub base???? There have been incidents of death threats, ugly, ugly name calling and spitting on legislators voting for health care. This is an ugly ugly face of the party. Is this truly how Repblicans want their party to be represented to the public??? When you work so hard at rousing the rabble, you become responsible for their actions. You do know who you are dealing with here, don't you????

You mean they haven't started bombing the Pentagon and Capitol Hill yet? Didn't Bill Ayers just say on Alan Colmes show that he wasn't sorry for doing it?
I hope those supporting the liberties provided under the Constitution don't get violent. It will hurt their cause. Always has always will.

The Republicans will have to deviate from their normal behavior before anyone takes notice.

That's the entire excuse? "They did it first"? Did that work with your Mom, because it sure didn't work with mine.

Ayers didn't represent the mainstream. Not only that, the right wing version of Ayers would have deliberately killed hundred of innocent victims, tried to become a martyr, and then demanded to be put to death. That's the Republican definition of dignity.

Yes, now lets try to apply that logic here as well. I've read a few reports, none of which were substantiated. In country of 310 million, you're bound to get a few crazies involved in politics. Just look at Congress.

It just seems like angry Democrats are more about name calling and angry Republicans are more about stone throwing. I think they need to slow down, lose some weight, put some sunburn medication on their necks, have a martini and chill. I really think some are more upset over some misguided perception of cultural upheaval than about the particulars of this bill. Yes, racism is definitely a major part of it in a significant number of cases.

Commentary: Tea Party proves me right on racism | McClatchy
Often we tell ourselves lies to spare ourselves truths. Had you asked them, the people who locked John Lewis inside that restaurant, the ones who mauled him at that bus station and smashed him down on that bridge, would not have said they acted from a rottenness within.
No, like the ones who called him "******" half a century later, they would have told you they were good people fighting for principle, trying to save this country from the liberals, the socialists and the communists.
They would not have said they were racists. Racists never do.

Leonard Pitts Jr., winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for commentary, is a columnist for the Miami Herald,
For some of us who lived through the horror of the Civil Rights movement, this is a sad reminder that it only takes one person spewing hate, to set off a firestorm that takes on a life of its own, and then leaves destruction in its wake. Hateful words once spoken, can not be taken back; one can not unring a bell--.
I have to ask, is this what we have come to, that we allow a for profit enterprise like Fox News to employ people who encite citizens to rock throwing and name calling...do we really think it is okay for the former governor of Alaska to put members of Congress or anyone else in the crosshairs of a gun...and as one of the Members of Congress said the other day, how can we expect our children to have any respect for laws that we pass against bullying in the schools, when the leadership of the Republican Party stands on the floor of the House of Representatives and says about a colleague: he is a dead man...is this really what we have come to in this country; and all because of politics?
FWIW, I think it is time we all wrote to our representatives in both Washington and Tallahassee (and whatever other state Capitol is appropriate) and tell them to grow up and act like role models for our children, or to leave, because they obviously can't handle the job!

I think Republicans will do what you say when the Democrats show similar leadership. The right has endured this kind of behavior for decades from progressives. It might be that it has been so long since progressives have seen true emotion and outrage from the right that it seems a little scary or out of character. Gone are the days that the right will just stand by pay all the taxes and take call the crap. The left has perfected intimidation and bullying over the years as we have seen with this most recent healthcare bill so I find your argument to be a straw-man one at best! I would suggest liberals like yourself prepare for a bitter divide in this country that will create class warfare progressives/liberals never dreamed.

There is a basic standard for acceptable behavior from adults, from our leaders, and from our elected officials.
No exceptions, no "but so-and-so did this", no left/right, no Republican/Democrat.
EVERYONE needs to take a good hard look at their behavior, rhetoric, and the behavior and rhetoric of those they choose to align themselves with politically.
Unless you are actively condemning this idiotic behavior AND doing things to change it, you ARE condoning it.

Scratch two supposed racial incidents, it's been confirmed the spitting incident and the name calling incident didn't happen. There's also a reward out for video or audio of other name calling incidents, thus far no one has stepped forward with proof. In all likelihood, none of this actually happened, people just misinterpreting things. Which considering the heated debate, is not surprising.
This begs a similar question though - has anyone involved in the leadership for the Democrats spoken out against blowing these unsubstantiated events out of proportion? I'm guessing not, in which case, the real damage is being done by the other side of the isle through the perpetuation of these rumors.
