Why are doctors & repair personnel the only ones NOT socially required to keep to a schedule? I wouldn't have any clients if I told them I could meet them "sometime between 10 and 2" or keep them cooling their heels after I scheduled an appt.
My frequently tardy self can understand 5 or 10 minutes leeway as some patients may require more time or an emergency may crop up, but anything beyond 30 is really pushing it! Last 2 times I went to see a doctor I waited for 1 hour (45 waiting room, 15 in exam room) and 50 minutes (44 in waiting, almost 10 in exam room). That first doctor will NEVER see me again as even after waiting that long (for a scheduled appointment mind you) I got pawned off on a PA who caught me just as I was about to leave.

Payback is a b....! All that time at the beach has come back to get me.
Direct TV was here twice last week and coming again tomorrow. Right now I am waiting on the dishwasher repairman on a dishwasher that the warranty expired on in September.

One should not be "paid back" for going to the beach!
(What else have you done to earn some bad karma--hee, hee? ;-))
Hope it all gets better soon.

I got a reward for waiting on the repairman...he was a stand up comic! Here is his joke...when he played football, his coach made the familiar speech..."there is no "I" in team. The repairman said..."no, but there is a M-E".

Speaking of comedians, did anyone happen to see the Frank Caliendo special on TBS. He's an impressionist that is soooo funny. I think his new show FrankTV starts tomorrow night.

this is also a pet peeve of mine with my dr. if he wasn't so good and i wasn't one of his first patients he had in this town i would leave. as it is i make him stay for my whole allotted 15 mins. he knows better than to even venture off his little rolling stool if i still have time left.

No--please feel free to laugh at me--it was "The Family Man" with Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni. Kind of a reverse "It's a Wonderful Life"--the story of a man who sees how great his life would have been if he'd done the right thing.
But I'm usually all over the black and whites: "The Bishop's Wife." "Meet Me in St. Louis." "Boys Town." "The Bells of St. Mary's." "National Velvet." All of those come out at Christmas, and I get all weepy. (I even get misty with "The Muppet Christmas Carol.")

Basically, if Nicolas Cage is in a movie, I want to see it.

With all of this talk of decorating, I came across a random thought. Isn't it ironic that we cut down live trees at Christmas time, killing them, bringing them out of nature, only to stand them up in our homes and water them, pretending that they are alive.

Party Pooper. I finally bought a faux tree last year. It is still in the box.

Yes it is. I used to insist on a "real" tree for years. And, I always felt bad for the ones standing there in the lot all alone on Christmas Eve..the ones no one bought.

Now I have fake ones, and I don't have to worry so much about the ones in the lot, because I don't go there and I try not to look when I pass by. IF I did have a "real" one again, it would be the kind you can plant later--with roots still attached.

I've been brainwashed to believe they are fulfilling their Xmas destiny.
That they would not be happy otherwise.

More thoughts regarding trees. It seems that for Christmas decorations, we are faced with the same problem we face at the grocery store -- paper or plastic? Paper is made from a renewable source, trees. Plastics from which most plastic grocery (I said, "most," Peaboy ;-)) bags are created, are petroleum-based. Same goes for Christmas trees. If you get the paper bags or the real Christmas trees, you face getting yelled at by the tree-huggers for killing trees. However, if you chose plastic, you get yelled at by the tree-huggers for using petroleum-based plastics, which do not break down so easily in our environment and because oil is non-renewable in addition to it keeps the US messing around in the middle east. What's a person who wants to do the right thing, to do? Get bashed, or get bashed?

don't know the answer SJ. I just know I get a real fresh tree every year and love having it inside my house throughout the holidays. I leave it plain for about a week just to admire it in its naked beauty. Then slowly begin to decorate it with lights, then with ornaments that we've collected for many many years. It's always a very eclectic kind of tree with big old fashioned lights and lots of different ornaments collected over the years. No theme tree here.

I never liked the thought of cutting down a tree for Christmas, and never liked the mess they made, either. (I think all the pointy, dead needles in your socks are tree karma.) Unfortunately, I'm no good at keeping a potted tree alive in my house, either.
But on the third hand, the overwhelming majority of Christmas trees are grown on Christmas trees farms. For four years, that is the only reason that tree is watered and fertilized, and some family's livelihood depends on its health and eventual sale. The tree is harvested and immediately replaced. In that sense, it is no different than a flower bought from a forest--purchased and regrown.
Just a thought...

I hear you, but that is the same argument being made against the use of paper bags at the grocery store. The paper companies plant and manage trees specifically to cut down the trees, to use for building materials and paper, then replant the trees. It's just on a larger scale.

I ate a salad at supper tonight. Someone cut that head of lettuce to the ground. I also had a potato, which was yanked out of the ground. We won't even talk about the steak that came after it.
(This is not at all an argument for picking up the Griswold family tree...)
