Where can I find them?
Hi Kase ... got distracted from this thread ... you know, by those three children you can come babysit in the fall.
It really sounds like UT is a great place for you. It seems like a lot of UT students are from New York, and many of them are there because they like a small campus, so you should fit in just fine!
Biffster goes on and on about those Mel's hot dogs, but I can't vouch. Haven't had a hot dog since I was 5. Here is Mel's website. It is by Busch Gardens:

I do know more about CDBs! It is an old time Italian spot, except they've had a number of locations all over. There is one in north Tampa near USF. There is also a new one in South Tampa (or SoTamp, as jdarg calls it). That is closer to UT. But still not exactly next door.

It is hard to give advice because there are so many bars and nightspots, and I'm not sure which ones welcome the 18-20 crowd. I don't want your parents to think I am am sending you to bars.
But you've already discovered Ybor. Channelside is pretty funn -- there is a lot to do there and it's just southwest of Ybor. http://www.channelsidetampa.com/
International Plaza is a great place to shop (Nordstrom, etc). There are a large number of assorted hangouts near UT, and downtown Tampa is starting to come together w/ more retail and restaurants. The Super Bowl is coming next year. You will not lack for things to do!!
needs to get out more
i'm tired and falling asleep sitting here...

How does one fall asleep and still correctly type?
Random thought for this morning -- Damn, it's cold. Where did the nice weather sneak off to?

I'm forgetting what "nice weather" is...

Well, an hour has passed and the nice weather is back. Currently, 46F degrees, with the temp rising, no wind, and the sunshine makes it feel like 60F degrees.

I only wish it was that easy here. We'll need a few weeks to pass before it shows up here. Enjoy it for those of us who are still shivering (and why am I heading north this weekend?!).

Hey, Gypsea, I guess that means you were a pretty nice kid.
BR, no better, no worse. Just not a follower, unless it was something or someone that I wanted to follow ;-). At my girls high school in the 70's, I also made the very uncool choice of taking a Naval Academy midshipman to my senior prom (you know ~ uniform, no hair, no car). Ever since, it has been one funn, exciting, adventurous life. Soooo being abnormal and making way unool decisions do me well!

It didn't hit me just how ridonkulous gas prices have gotten until I was filling up the car, looked at the sign and had a total deja vu moment - except that gas was $2 more a gallon!
Same car, same grade of gas..................$2 more!

finally met swgb tonight at sally's backside
... what a trip that place is, especially with Redd singing "crazy" as she serves drinks, with an absolutely gorgeous voice. loved every second of it. only in SoWal...
I mean a bunch of us girls went to Sally's Backside, okay? it's a lounge behind the gas station.
and its fabulous! I shouldn't even talk about it here, don't know if they like non-locals... but they have had some press coverage lately and have had people coming from all around, according to Sally.

I hear ya, Gypsea. You go, girl!
On another subject, I have an unbelievable story. One of my daughter's male friends (she didn't reveal his name) who graduated from Georgia Tech several years ago and has a successful career called her and asked if he could come by to talk to her. He said he'd meet her in the lobby. When she arrived in the lobby, she heard her name being called, but she couldn't find him. All she saw was a female. IT WAS HIM.
He told her that he is a cross-dresser, but that she was the only one of his friends he'd told. He asked for her advice because he is getting married in a month and wanted to know if he should tell his fianc?. BTW he's been with men. She told him that the only ethical thing to do is to tell her. Obviously, that will jeopardize the wedding, but it is the right thing to do for many reasons. A lot of people will be hurt, I'm afraid.
After she got over the shock, in her characteristic sense of humor she said, "Actually, he looked pretty good as a woman, but he could use some makeup application tips."

I notice that the personal lubricants and condoms are located on the isle with all the baby stuff in the grocery stores. I can understand why parents of babies would want to be reminded of the condoms. However, it seems to me that better placement would be right next to the beer isle and another selection of condoms in the Wine section.
hmmmm......can't remember

At our K-Roger, they keep the condoms locked up, next to the nicotine patches.

I think they're in that aisle because it's the personal item/pharmacy/non-food item aisle, not because it's a baby/birth control issue.

On that subject, they will never sell a condom to a short girl or guy. They place the condoms and lubricants out of the reach and sight of kids, so short people would have to ask someone else to reach a box of condoms for them. (could make a great hidden camera setup) Also, guys don't want to get caught on the feminine product isle, so they won't be buying them from the grocery store, unless they also display them next to the beer. Women probably want to keep them near the other fem. products, but not guys. I bet they could sell a lot of condoms to guys if they were next to the beer, just to make the guy look like he was cool. "yeah, I'm buying an 18 pack of Bud and I think I'll get some of these condoms, too. I'm cool."
