Wondering what people on here do for their problems with things like your stomach burning so bad that it feels like a knife being jabbed all the way through to your back, in other words, inflamed stomach or gastritis. Not to mention my other issues. Inflammation in my entire back, swelling on the back of my neck above my spine. Sinuses I can deal and live with, not the other. You name it, it bothers me. So tired of this.

I personally feel like this is a question you should be asking a doctor. If you can't get in to see your own doctor, then I would be finding a new doctor. Why would you not go to a doctor, ANY doctor if you are having these kind of symptoms??? I don't understand. And why would you be asking us to help you, instead of going to said doctor? It sounds like it might be serious to me. Johnrudy, don't shoot me, but there are some things that I think should NOT be asked on a message board. And something like this is one of them. IMHO....none of us are qualified to answer medical questions...well, except for skunky anyway, and I feel like why should someone who is obviously suffering not just go the doctor instead of asking us for advice.....

I think advice has been offered from one and all. I think the advice to see a Dr. is the very best advice. Seeking a new one if you are sick or in pain and can't be seen for 2 weeks is excellent advice.
I would be worried that a home remedy may relieve the discomfort, but may mask a medical condition that needs further attention. It's always best for your health and your peace of mind to seek professional medical assistance.
Let us know what your Dr. says.

Ok, we went to Paulette's for our company Christmas dinner today. Had a good time and great meal.
Maybe that's what's causing the burn in your stomach.

On a serious note, ladydebubba, kathydwells and the rest are right...you really do need to get to a doctor. I had symptoms similar to yours several years ago and it turned out to be an ulcer. It can affect your back and neck muscles as well, probably due to tensing up from the stomach pain.
You really do need to see a doc ASAP.

I'm not really asking medical advice totally here. Was just wondering what is effective for other people who have problems like this. This doctor I see has seen me for 20 years, not meant to be funny, but he knows me inside and out. He worked me in quickly earlier this year when I had a problem. It's not like he didn't call something in for me to the pharmacy. And I have had this problem before in the past, and after about anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks it subsides with my controlling what I eat and drink. The reason I am delaying going somewhere else, they don't fully know the extent of my problem, and I don't want that dreaded lighted tube run down my throat into my stomach. The one time I had surgery I woke up and they had a tube down my throat and I panicked because I could not breathe and was pointing at it for them to take it out. I'm a big chicken where that is concerned. Bad enough to have to have the other.

, and no more problems. When I would eat ice-cream, I would wake up in the middle of the night with shooting, burning pain in my stomach. It hurt so bad that I would often get out of bed and curl up on the floor in misery. It doesn't take too many of those occurances to stop the craving for ice-cream.
Have had it occasionally over the past 3 weeks, but not any in about a week probably. I have had an abdominal ultrasound when this was going on and nothing unusual was ever seen and have even been to my gastroenterologist when this has occured on another occasion. He found nothing. And of course any milk right now does the same thing, so I am trying to avoid that. And no coffee. And boy am I paying for that with withdrawal headaches. My husband calls it an inflamed stomach. He has had that before and had to eat bland food. My stomach is always tender where the burning is. Thus the Mylanta, when necessary, and Prilosec come into play. ;-)

the mr and i were just discussing this night before last. he had a big bowl of ice cream before bed, and woke up with pain, choking, gagging etc. as per usual..there's no danger of him giving up ice cream tho, he will suffer thru the pain.

We have chocolate ice cream in the freezer but I won't touch it. I do not need something waking me up in the night like that. What is it with the ice cream causing so much trouble for people?

mr audie said he remembered learning about it in pharmacy school and something about the calcium in it irritating the stomach or something like that. i don't remember that. i probably filed it under useless knowledge since i don't care much for ice cream anyway.

I know what the problem is.:nono1:
It's that Pretzel, strawberry, cool whip, cream cheese, spaghettios, what else was in that dessert y'all wanted me to try?
Seriously though LadyD, see a doctor and I hope you get the relief and answers you need. ;-)

Ok, I went to the doctor today for my stomach problems. Took my blood pressure, temperature, felt of my stomach as I told them my stomach was tender and had a gnawing, burning feel to it along with alot of belching and burning behind the breastbone. Put me on Protonix 40 mg., nothing said as to what they thought it was. Even mentioned the bad stomach ache I had 3 weeks ago along with the vomiting and bleeding. Spent 5 minutes with me at the most and sent me on my way. Stomach is still sore to the touch. Hope this stuff helps. Not that the Prilosec OTC hadn't helped some.

Sorry that I missed this thread earlier LadyD
It concerns me that you describe a sensation of pain radiating to your back. That one phrase would have earned you a fairly exhaustive cardiac workup in your local ER. If the medication you were prescribed does not work in a few days, you can add ranitidine 150mg twice daily (aka Zantac, but no sense in paying top $ for the brand name). If you take a daily aspirin or lots of stuff like ibuprofen or naproxen I would stop (let your doc know you are stopping the aspirin!). If you drink lots of Pepto-Bismol, stop, it is full of aspirin. Diet modification may help-try small meals and cut out the caffeine as much as is possible. The problem with dairy products is that calcium and fats slow down gastric emptying, so food sits in your stomach and lots of acid is produced, and heartburn sets in. I know you have good reason to be wary of endoscopy, but they give you good medication during the procedure and it isn't nearly as frightening as a 'breathing tube' in your throat-the endoscope is a thin wire that goes down your esophagus (food pipe), not your trachea (windpipe). At any rate, I wouldn't let this go for much longer. PM me and let me know how you are doing...if failures continue, I have a few suggestions on stuff you can prod your doc into doing

That ice cream thing is a condition called "lactose intolerance." It is very common with adults and quite common in dogs and some cats even. Its symptoms are very alarming and uncomfortable, apparently. I am not a great fan of ice cream, thank goodness. This new yummy stuff is just way too rich for me and I prefer to parse my calories out in other ways. My dad was famous for filling a mixing bowl full of "pah-nilla" ice cream covered with Hershey's syrup and eating the whole thing with a serving spoon in the middle of the night. He wasn't fat, but he didn't live long enough. Now that I think of it, he also loved these wonderful ice cream treats of that day, which were dark chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream combined in a roll that looked like a jelly roll. My, my...those were lovely!
