House Republicans last month sent a bill to the Senate to keep the government running through the end of the fiscal year. Senator Reid refused to bring it to a vote, so the House passed a short-term bill to keep the government running ? one that also cuts spending.
- Republicans? goal is to cut spending, not to shut down the government.
- To help create jobs and save our children from national bankruptcy, we must stop spending money we don't have.
- We cannot afford to borrow 42 cents on the dollar, much of it from the Chinese, and send the bill to our children and grandchildren.
- On February 19, 2011, the House passed the largest spending cut in Congress since the end of World War II to move us toward ending America?s spending-driven debt crisis and put the nation on the road to economic growth and job creation.
- Our nation is in a spending-driven debt crisis that will induce job-destroying tax increases or higher interest rates. Debt and deficits are the symptoms, spending is the disease.
- House Republicans will continue our work to keep the government running while cutting the Democrats? job-destroying spending.
It?s now up to Senator Harry Reid to make a choice ? will he accept the reasonable cuts in House Republicans?full-year funding bill or will he refuse to let go of one red centand force the government to shut down?
