excellent netted olive (left) and only slightly damaged florida small conch (right)!

well done!

FYI: if the olive shell starts to stink, clean it out from the tail end (which is really the head end) with a straightened gem clip and seawater, then spray the inside with febreeze or the like, but protect the outside from spraying (and sunlight) as much as possible or the design will fade

:clap_1: I couldn't tell you how many of those I collected last year on the beach. And in very good shape. Even some small spiral shells. But does anyone ever find any sharks teeth on the beach there? I always found them on the Atlantic side. Makes me wish I were there looking for shells.

In all my years going to FL. I have only found one shark tooth. I used to find hundreds in Galveston. But, there may be hundreds in Fl too for all I know since I can't see sh*t anymore!! :idontno: πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

From time-to-time when we had very young children (under 4) as visitors, we used to go to the store and buy some shells and scatter them around for them to "find."

:idontno: ....we just added to to the list when it was time to "out" Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy.

We found tons of shark's teeth when we were around Port Charlotte on the gulf a few years ago. I think one of the neatest finds was Castles of Sands white arrowhead last fall. BC, you will love Sanibel...a treasure hunter's paradise!

I found a couple of intact shells and a couple of damaged but very cool looking ones at Grayton Beach while we were there. It was such a thrill. I love finding shells.

OL is dead right. Best places for shark's teeth along Florida's west coast are Venice Beach and points just north and south. They are fossilized and all over the place.

Sanibel has wonderful shelling. Sanibel is flat out a wonderful place. It was our favorite vacation spot before we discovered SoWal. I have to admit there are few places in the world that I would rather own than gulf front in Captiva (that is if we were disgustingly wealthy and thus unbothered by insurance and hurricanes). However we love love love SoWal for its sugar sand and beautiful water. I am delighted that I am not walking in shell bits every time I go to the beach, and the lack of shells at the shore doesn't bother me. Beach Crazy you got really really lucky! Good finds!

Thanks everybody! I thought I was very lucky and y'all have confirmed that. I would walk in the surf just at the edge and watch where the water would pull the sand back down with it. That's how I found them both, any other method produced zero results....

Speaking of Sanibel Island, and shells. My bosses son and his wife and kids moved to Sanibel Island last year due to a change of job. She claims they were able to rent a home right on the beach for $1,000.00 a month. I find that hard to believe. Especially when some of the rental rates for beach houses are that for a week. And of course, I am sure the kids love the shell hunting on the beach. As they are 5 and 8 years old. But I am sure their parents are watching the TS with interest.
