Anyone here have one or have experience with one? I was going to buy a Flip then saw that Kodak makes a waterproof model. I just read a bad review on the Kodak. Anybody have any advise or experience?

I have a flip and have the waterproof case for it. Works great. I've been down over 30ft and have had no leaks. Not sure if they make the case, anymore, but they are out there. The only downside is that I don't think that they fit the HD version.

I stand corrected. They, now, have a case for the HD camera...

Flip Video Underwater Case

You can still get cases for the regular Flips on Amazon and a number of other places...

Flip does offer a third party case good down to 200ft if you want to part ways with $250!

I love the quality of my flip. Unless the wind is blowing, the sound quality is really good and the video quality is good, as long as you mount it on a tripod, or sit it on a table top. And, yes, you can buy a waterproof housing (I should get one) for about $35. I have the HD 30 frames/sec 2hours of shooting.

Downsides:
-forget about using the zoom. It diminishes the video quality greatly.
-not waterproof, so you have to lug around WP housing for water stuff.
-has a tendency to get bumped to "on" when in my pockets or a tote bag, killing the battery supply. (needs a lock for the power on/off)
-terrible battery life. The built in card can hold 2 hrs of footage, but the rechargeable battery pack goes dead after about 45min. Can replace with AA batteries, but they seem to last for only about 30 minutes. (they really need to address that)
-- the flip out USB plug kind of sucks for charging and downloading, especially on Macs, because it blocks the other USB jack so you cannot download directly to external disk, unless you buy a splitter USB jack. USB is also how you charge the battery pack.
- get ready to buy a new portable hard drive because video takes up lots of space.
upsides:
- great quality 720 HD video and audio is very good, except in windy conditions.
-built in, easy to use editing software, and can work on higher end software like Premier Pro and Final Cut Pro.
- uses regular AA batteries in addition to rechargeable battery pack.
- comes in custom graphics and custom colors if you buy from Flip.
-made by Cisco (quality company)
- cheap! lots of value for the price

They now make an HD which shoots 60 frames /sec, but records only one hour.
Also make the Minnow, which is tiny.

I'd buy a Flip over a Kodak any day of the week. Kodak really took a nose dive after digital cameras came out. They didn't know what they needed to do, and they lost their focus.

I would avoid the Kodak. Very bad reviews. The Flips are nice and small. I was thinking about getting the Zoom Q3HD. Its a little bigger, but has a USB plug built in and an HDMI port as well. It does up to 1080p and the audio quality is stunning. I think you can get it for $299.00.

I've seen some of the newer Flips with HDMI. I never have the occasion to use HDMI, but I could see how some people might find it cool to instantly share to the big screen.

RO, you can upload your own graphic image to Flip if you buy through them, and they will print it on the shell of the camera! It's cool.

Flip keeps their costs down by using a virtually free Codec AVI. Unfortunately AVI has virtually no compression. You can convert those to MP4 pretty easily if you've got the time:

FLV Mp4 Encoder Convert youtube videos

Of course if you don't want to waste your processing speed you can always use mine:

FLV MP4 Encoder Convert youtube videos including hi def
(You do have to change the drop down box to either MP4 or MP4-HD) The HD simply retains the aspect ratio.

You can shrink them anywhere from 10-70% it just depends on the subject(s) you are shooting. The result then plays in almost any player.
