PETITION-SIGNING DRIVE TO BE HELD DURING ARTSQUEST
SEASIDE ? Residents of District 7 - which stretches from Destin to Tallahassee - will have the opportunity to sign petitions to get House District 7 candidate David Pleat on the ballot May 8 and 9 during the ArtsQuest festivities in Seaside.

A table with petitions and campaign literature will be set up in front of Bud & Alley?s noon-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Pleat, a vocal opponent of the nearshore oil drilling bill, will be available Sunday afternoon to speak with residents and answer questions about his campaign.

Bud & Alley?s is owned by local restaurateur Dave Rauschkolb, the brainchild behind the Hands Across the Sand event that drew thousands to drilling opponents to beaches across the state in February. The idea for HATS came during an Oct. 1, 2009, meet-and-greet that Pleat held at Bud & Alley?s, during which he discussed legislation pending in Tallahassee that would lift a long-standing ban on nearshore oil drilling.

Pleat?s opponent, Marti Coley, R-Marianna, supports near shore oil drilling and voted in favor of House Bill 1219 last session.

For more information about Pleat?s campaign or to sign up as a volunteer, go to www.electdavidpleat.com or call 850-650-0599.
