Formerly uber-conservative 30A-Skunkape took part in his very first protest march today. :clap_1:

That is alarming and sad. I guess we all need to keep looking over our shoulder at all times.
No, I refuse to become suspicious or worse yet, paranoid, because of today's crime rate. The criminals of this world will have won if we let that happen to ourselves. Good old-fashioned common sense and simple caution-the kind our parents taught us--serves well. That, and making our voices heard, like Skunky did. And Skunky, you may modestly say you didn't "march" but you most certainly did help to make a point by just being there, and being seen.

i have got so even around our town i am paranoid to go out by myself. i worry about muggings and carjackings which both have been happening. i am especially paranoid if i am in the convertible, i always lock my purse in the trunk then. i think it is a shame that good decent people have to live in fear of this stuff.

In reality, I feel I have to be more aware of my surroundings, possibly even a little paranoid. I've witnessed too much in my lifetime to be naiive and caught off-guard. One of the first things they teach you in self-defense classes is to always be suspicious. Better to be safe than sorry. We learn from unfortunate situations such as these to become more aware of what's going on around us every day.

Let's hope the media won't let up on this. They carry a lot of weight...one way or the other. Good work Skunky!:clap_1:

Hats off to Skunky! I saw the coverage that Anderson Cooper did on this. I'm a regular regular in New Orleans (imagine that...) as I have many friends and family there.
Its not a matter of 'bad neighborhood' as these crimes are random, and in every neighborhood. Their mayor needs to visit San Antonio and see how they got their city under control. Granted they still have gangs/problems, but the downtown area is so safe you can walk the streets at 3am and have nothing to fear.
There are cops everywhere, on foot, on bikes, on horses, in squad cars, and a lot of undercover, and cameras everywhere. The Riverwalk is their biggest money maker, its a huge convention city and they can't afford to have problems.
They've got to get there law enforcement under control before they can get the troublemakers taken care of!
I'm glad no one in the Parade was shot!
