okay my little fitness wannabees... here it is. and thanks for deciding on this thread name. After sharing our goals and strategies for fitness and weight reduction, we'll all be sowell on sowal!!!

Cork and I are doing at least one yoga/pilates class per week now. plus we bicycled the other day (almost killed me). and plan to do exercise on our own at home as well.

as far as diet and weight reduction, we haven't really gotten very far. I'm reading two current resources for motivation and just general info: Body for Life for Women (A Woman's plan for Physical and Mental Transformation) - Pamela Peeke, MD, and The Reality Diet (fight fat with fiber) - Schnur, MD. They are both really straightforward, no nonsense approaches to weight loss - and include a lot of info on weekly menus, exercise, etc.

I know that I will need a menu plan to follow in the first 3 months of my "transformation". If I have a reasonable menu to follow, then I don't mind shopping and cooking. Having it all planned out makes it easier for me, and it makes me eat things that I would otherwise avoid or not think about eating (it expands the culinary experience)...

What are your goals? I need to finish up some of my reading and then I plan to put my goals on paper, along with my plan to achieve them. I have also already started a food and exercise journal.

I'll be sharing some of this with you. I hope we can all share successes, questions, recipes, exercise tips, etc... hope to see you on here every day looking for motivation and at the same time giving support to all of us.. :D

Here I am! Depending on if you want to use last Saturday or Monday for a starting weight. If you use Saturday then I lost 3.5 pounds. If you use Monday then I only lost 1.5.

Whichever you use, I'm not where I was last week:clap_1:

So far it's great. I'm a little confused about beans however. I've been eating them on Phase 1, but now I'm not sure if I'm supposed to. Do you know? My friend lost 8 pounds last week and she is not eating beans, but she also has more to lose and is taller. She exercised a couple of times last week too, I wonder if that did it:idontno:

Beans are on the Foods to Enjoy list. However, just watch your portions. I love black beans and ate them alot. I just watched my portions. Exercise is important also. Good luck and keep it up.

EXERWHAT:eek:

Hee Hee...I know what you mean!!! I just read an article the other day about how changing your eating habits to include a healthy diet was just as beneficial as starting an exercise program. Some people are physically unable to exercise, but just by changing their diets they can lose weight. To that end, I did not maintain a high exercise level when I started on South Beach. I walked a little bit in the evenings and I still managed to drop about 50 lbs. I am not advocating no exercise, but what I am saying is you can lose weight simply by changing your eating habits.

Here is a website that will help you figure out what your ideal weight should be. Sometimes we think our ideal weight is much lower than what it should actually be for our body types. This will help you see that.

Darlene, I likey this! According to this, I only need to lose 38 lbs!!! Ideally, I would like to be much thinner than that, so I could pig out every now and then. Now, I just pretty much do it all the time...:bang: . My friend started today on that old Dolly Parton diet--you know the one with all the cabbage soup? Hadn't thought of that in years. Seems like I remember it makes one pretty gassy!!

Well, I don't know if I am the wench to whom you are speaking, but according to Rule 8, Section 5 of the SoWell Mofo Wenches Committee, Whataburger is ABSOLUTELY allowed while one is in mourning or going through withdrawal of alcohol or paradise, whichever may come first.

Dear KDW,

How long did it take you to lose 50 lbs. on South Beach and how long have you kept it off?

Great website. The other ones always depress me. According to this one, I have 11 lbs to lose to be in the normal weight range and anything else I lose will be a bonus. Thanks -- you made my day!

I lost 3 lbs since the weekend before Halloween and would like to lose 5 more (ambitious) before Thanksgiving for my high school reunion.

That website is VERY motivating because it's realistic...

Paula: 3 pounds!!! yooo hooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :clap_1:

I just got back from a weekend trip where we ate out each and every meal. why is it that I just cannot order a salad at a restaurant? unless it is on the side, and they are giving it to me whether I want it or not?

Sueshore: I enjoyed a wonderful cheeseburger this weekend and wish I had another one now.

I still have no scale. But my measurements remain the same, because of exercise and exercise alone. I don't miss having a scale by the way, maybe I'll wait to purchase one, and try to really concentrate on other progress indicators such as: how do my clothes fit? what are my basic measurements (waist, hips, thighs, chest)? and how do I feel?

Even though I went to yoga this morning, I still feel kind of yucky from a daily crap-filled diet. It really makes a difference and so I'm going to do some menu planning right now.

Thanks all for providing motivation once again.!!!!!

Good job, Paula!!!

Toots: I know what you mean about eating crap and then feeling like crap. I'm right there with ya! On whom shall we blame this? No whip crackin' from me this week. I need it myself!

It feels good to have lost those 3 pounds, though I'm keeping in mind that those were the 3 pounds I added from my travels and Halloween. But at least I'm back to a reasonable starting place to take off another 5 in the next 3 weeks (well, 2.5 weeks), and then another 5 after that (during the holiday season?!?!?). As for feeling like crap after eating a lot, well, you could consider that motivation... Anyway, those are the pounds that tend to come off quickly so you should be OK in a day or two, Toots.

Also, seeing my boyfriend from the second grade at my high school class reunion the Saturday after Thanksgiving is motivation.

Off to watch dancing with the stars with the family...
