kathydwells story gives me an idea for a photo focus for the summer -- capture the worst sunburns on film.

Now that would be interesting. While you are at it, you might remind them what sunscreen is for!!!!!

So I was in the nude ironing my shirt. My girlfriend walks in and pinches my butt. I did not know she was there so I jump forward and my you know what hits the iron... The iron was on high cotton!

There was a recent news article about how young people STILL won't stop tanning and wear sunscreen despite all the health warnings so they have adopted a new program. Instead of warning of skin cancer etc. they are harping on the fact that it causes wrinkles!

Oh KD......what an awful story. I think it is one of the most severe I have heard. And your father was the worst part. My dad would have killed me. We have all done things we regretted later.;-)

i think the worst part i had burned now that i think about it is my eyelids, my part in my hair, and the tops of my ears....

the first time we went to myrtle beach with my parents, my hubby and i were sitting on the beach, and mr audie said oh my god look at that guy - it's the hairy sasquatch !

OK- on a serious tanning note. I put 30 sunscreen on every day, sometimes twice. I am as brown as when I was "actively" tanning and wearing SPF 4. Will ramping up to 45 make that big a difference? I love to be outside, so staying indoors is not going to be a good option. I wonder if I am just going to tan through whatever sunscreen I am wearing?

I would say the simple answer is yes. Also, don't forget that sunscreen numbers aren't strengths, they are time factors. So all the 45 gives you is more time in the sun before you burn, not more protection per se.

back in HS before PCB was a pimple, Ft. Lauderdale was the place for spring break. As locals, we would do the crawl along the strip, and marvel at the degrees of redness on the hotties. you could almost judge how long they had been there by the damaged skin factor.

I think that wearing sunscreen filters out more harmful rays, so I think you're still getting as tan, but getting less damage.............is this correct?

Stay out of the sun's direct light during the prime cancer hours (aka - prime tanning hours by some), wear sunblock, wear long sleeves, wear a hat. -- just my $.02

No, you tan away at your will. I'm not trying to tell people how to tan, just how to help limit their exposure to the harmful rays of the Sun if they chose to take extra precaution. ;-)
