The Boston Tea Party occurred on December 16, 1773.

It took 116 people 3 hours to throw the 45 TONS of tea into the harbor.

Please take 5 minutes to let your elected representatives know what YOU think of all of the thousands of earmarks and billions of dollars they added to the recent bill!

All of the earmarks are organized by state and the representative who requested them.

Please keep in mind that the original tea party had nothing to do with poorly worded signs and thinly veiled racism.

Well, they did dress up as Indians complete w/ "war paint" and feathers ............... ;-)

Seriously though - I know what a REAL tea party is about - that's why I was referencing the historical date and asking people to do something about government waste, not buy ammo or hide from the CIA.

GOP replacement?

Rasmussen Reports:

Tea Party Tops GOP on Three-Way Generic Ballot

Monday, December 07, 2009

Running under the Tea Party brand may be better in congressional races than being a Republican.
In a three-way Generic Ballot test, the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds Democrats attracting 36% of the vote. The Tea Party candidate picks up 23%, and Republicans finish third at 18%. Another 22% are undecided.
Among voters not affiliated with either major party, the Tea Party comes out on top. Thirty-three percent (33%) prefer the Tea Party candidate, and 30% are undecided. Twenty-five percent (25%) would vote for a Democrat, and just 12% prefer the GOP.
Among Republican voters, 39% say they?d vote for the GOP candidate, but 33% favor the Tea Party option.
For this survey, the respondents were asked to assume that the Tea Party movement organized as a new political party. In practical terms, it is unlikely that a true third-party option would perform as well as the polling data indicates. The rules of the election process?written by Republicans and Democrats--provide substantial advantages for the two established major parties. The more conventional route in the United States is for a potential third-party force to overtake one of the existing parties.

When I hear the term Tea Party I think of a bunch of silly, dowdy old ladies, sitting around gossiping about their neighbors, while putting on false fronts.

Guess I am mostly correct in that assumption.

The latest calculation of the National Debt as posted by the Treasury Department has - at least numerically - exceeded the statutory Debt Limit approved by Congress last February as part of the Recovery Act stimulus bill.

The ceiling was set at $12.104 trillion dollars. The latest posting by Treasury shows the National Debt at nearly $12.135 trillion.

A senior Treasury official told CBS News that the department has some "extraordinary accounting tools" it can use to give the government breathing room in the range of $150-billion when the Debt exceeds the Debt Ceiling.

Were it not for those "tools," the U.S. Government would not have the statutory authority to borrow any more money. It might block issuance of Social Security checks and require a shutdown of some parts of the federal government.

Pending in Congress is a measure to increase the Debt Limit by $290 billion, which amounts to six more weeks of routine borrowing for the federal government. (The House just passed the increase, though the Senate has yet to act. It is expected to approve the measure.)

Republicans and conservative Democrats blocked moves by House leaders to pass a $1.8 trillion dollar increase in the Debt Limit so the Democratic majority would not have to face the embarrassment of raising the Debt Limit yet again before next November's midterm elections.

The Debt Limit has been raised about a hundred times since 1940, when it was $49 billion - about five days worth of federal spending now.

The White House projects a record $1.5 trillion dollars deficit this year alone, and a 5-year deficit total of $4.97 trillion.

Wheee!

I know - absolutely ridiculous!

Please take a look at the ways our elected Representatives (from both parties) are padding the bills to make it even worse and let them know it is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!

And remember which ones didn't request earmarks come election time!

That is exactly what I thought the thread was as well. I am very disappointed as I was planning on bringing the crumpets! ;-)

I believe the flower is for some instant messenger protocol if you wanted to chat with SWGB.

Here's a quick list of elected Representatives that don't have earmarks:

Some of those made me feel ill. You come across something like 106,000 for a new canine unit on some police force and you're like, ok, that's acceptable. But then you see 2 million being requested on "improved hiking trails" and you think, if the feds had money to burn ok, but is now really the time to be spending Yen on hiking trails?

For most of these idiots, it's as if the downturn and federal debt situation doesn't even exist. This is why we need a presidential line item veto and true conservative in the White House.

No, there are actually some listed who do not believe in earmarks. A minority to be sure, but they do exist and are called out for not doing so on the list.

Sorry for the misleading title - to atone we will have a tea/coffee party after the holidays are over!

Not surprising, considering the dismal performance of both parties for the past 40-50 years.

I still would like to see "None of the above" on all ballots.
