I always check out the gallery after I get caught up on my reading and posting, and you were uploading them as I was looking at the gallery. I was so excited when I saw these. They made my day!!!!

It is not a dumb question. Look up. See the the Photo Gallery, right next to Member list? click on it, you will see photos there, either in the members photo albums, or the General Gallery. Any of these can be used as avatars. You might have to resize them prior to using them for an avatar though. hope this helps.
