Wouldn?t it be brilliant if a comedic rally for moderation could garner more support than Beck?s event. Oh the irony!
I doubt the pulpit will be taken away from extremists though. ...... shall be fun!

That's a rally I'd love to attend. Jon Stewart is one helluva funny guy. He was on Oprah a couple of days ago.

Sometimes I think Colbert is just about the smartest, funniest person to have ever been on television (just ask him), but then , Jon Stewart does his Glenn Beck imitation, or some other simply silly (but astute) observation, and I just just can't tell who's the best.

....just goes to show how "pop culture" has affected our political system.People pay more attention to the court jester.

When he tells it like it is? Yes! Besides, the laughter is salve to our wounds. Have you noticed that much of the country is pretty bummed out?
To me, the irony of the event is that so many people probably want to attend but can't because they have actual $%!^ to do, as Stewart himself pointed out.
His announcement of the event was one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time. I loved the premade signs.

Probably because the "court jesters" are also the ones ACTUALLY supporting the troops, the US Olympic team, have the best guests (who do not always agree with the host), actual discussions about topics we care about, and call politicians out on their nonsense.

This is so true. Aside from the over-the-top (and hilariously spot-on) jabs at Fox News, MSNBC, CNN and CNBC, Colbert and Stewart have been class all the way. The interviews are consistently top-notch.

I heard Tina Fey will be there!

Spot on! We would be there if we could. Autumn in DC and what promises to be a funn rally about the direction extremists are taking our country - I can get on board! I'm hoping for satellite connections around the country so maybe I can be a part of it that way.

On my way to being ridiculously entertained during the Daily Show/Colbert Report, I find that I've also been greatly educated by the fascinating guests they have on their shows. I've learned about great books, great people who are making a change in this world, and everything in between. What's usually the most entertaining is when they lambast the hypocrisy of the extreme right, but they have made fun of just about everybody from Oberman to Obama, from Bloomberg , Spitzer, and Jimmy Carter, to the Pope. Walk the Walk, I will admit a lot of the jokes are about the pompous jerks on Faux News, but when Glenn Beck compares Obama to Hitler something like 127 times in two years, it's funny!

The court jester's sure have one heck of a research team. If the "professionals" did a third of the research into the crazy things spouted on both sides then we normal people may actually know what the heck is actually going on. IMO, the biggest difference between the "professionals" and the jesters is that you can tell when the jesters are pulling your leg. I am not sure that the "professionals" do enough independent research to even know when they are just regurgitating crap from one of the sides that isn't true but has been packaged up into nice little soundbites..

I actually overheard someone this week talking about how much he revered Glenn Beck......... :puke:

They have amazing guests - usually because that guest is promoting their latest book, but the discussions are the best on TV.
I really like it when they continue the discussions outside the show and just post the whole unedited thing on the internet.

So will there be a Sowal Satellite?

I'm all for a return to sanity and a rally full of truthiness, it's just that the "Keep Fear Alive" proponents have hijacked the hurricane thread, and I'll probably be busy that weekend buying batteries and beer.

As a "sanity" proponent I think it much more likely we will be hungover from the Alys Halloween party than that we will be busy fleeing for our lives. ;-)

So nobody is going?
The 30th is my birthday, I'm not getting any younger, and I really wanted to stand up and be counted at that rally.
I looked into airfare and a place to stay and all of it is feasible to me, except for the minor fact that I just began a new job a month ago, and am *already* taking time off for an out of town family event the previous weekend.
I guess it is just as Stewart says, some of us have other responsibilities.
