I am embarrassed to admit that last week for the first time I saw Shine a Light, a documentary movie produced in 2008 by Martin Scorcese about the Rolling Stones. I'm a big Stones fan (own every album), and my husband likes them enough to go to every Stones concert with me in Atlanta, but as a result of watching this movie, our 20-something daughter is a new Stones fan.
Have any of y'all seen that movie? As usual I am probably just drawn into the college-aged-student vortex, constantly around 20-somethings, and missed it.
I'm 90% giving up listening to Sirius 47 to listening to the Stones in my car. The Stones are awesome, and the movie highlighted just why. Mick is 68, Keith will be 68 in December, Charlie is 70, Ronnie is 64. So I might as well enjoy them as long as I can.
I heart the Stones.

It's easy to say they're the best rock band ever. They probably were 30 years ago and they're still rocking. Some say it's because they made a deal with the devil.

I haven't seen it, BR. But, even though the Beatles will always be my faves, I do love me some Mick too. I looked at that old thread....was it really in 2006? Wow. Anyway, I sort of have to agree with jdarg about the Stones music being sexy. Beatles..not so sexy..

I grew up on the Stones since my Dad was always a fan and that movie is great! I've never seen them in concert, during our early 20's concert haydays, we couldn't afford them! I really need to see them!

Love me some Stones. I've seen them the last 4 times they've come to ATL. Have you all read Keith's book? Interesting read. Although you may have to skim through the lengthy sections where he explains about all the guitar chords he's come up with. Wish they'd do one last tour, but I don't see it coming.

The Stones are known as the best rock and roll band on the planet!
I've followed the stones since the early 60's been going to their concerts since the late 70's. I have been collecting posters and tickets on every concert tour they have ever preformed in the states. I haven't missed one since 78 the ticket was $18.
It's quite a collection
I saw Shine the Light and enjoyed it..............happy that your listening to a band that is timeless. Alot of bands are here today gone tomorrow but the Stones have stood the test of time. Rock On!

Anyway, I sort of have to agree with jdarg about the Stones music being sexy. Beatles..not so sexy..I was called Beatle Fay in grade school -- Beatles stickers on all of my books. I have a huge collection of Beatles memorabilia. IMHO the Beatles are more creative and intellectual than the Stones. But the Stones just have more sexual energy, and I love the Texas and black influences in their music.

If you could only listen to one from here on out, who would you choose, Stones or Beatles? The Stones were great rockers, but, in my book, the Beatles are the best.

The energy of their music energizes yet relaxes me when I'm driving (which is primarily when I listen to music).
For some reason listening to the Beatles makes me sad.

We were so close to Mick at the Bridges to Babylon concert in ATL that we could have touched him.
It was quite a journey to get there. First I watched my daughter play in basketball game in Carrollton, GA. Then I dropped her off at Mom's in Atlanta during a horrific rain storm. Then I drove to the Reid House across from the High Museum to unload my bags because hubby and I were spending the night with good friends (they own a penthouse there). Then I drove them to the Georgia Dome.
In the meantime husband was delayed at the Greenville airport due to the private jet not being able to fly in the fog. He was with the CEO of the company, and the CEO was nice enough to offer to drive Big D to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta so he wouldn't miss the concert. Big D looked out of place -- he was dressed in a dark suit due to being at an important meeting. LOL.
But that night was one of the funnest nights of our lives. We were so close to Mick. Unbelievable. Our friends and we had a fabulous time. We girls squealed during the entire show. Awesome.

Had a similar debate with myself driving home tonight. Fair remake of gimmie shelter by some forgettable group and wondered if stones or the who greatest and most influential rock band ever. Must also admit to watching song remains the same movie by Led Zeppelin Sunday night. Pretty sweet group too.
