Please, please, please remember to be safe while on the roads, especially tonight.

Recently, a friend of mine was T-boned coming onto hwy 98 in Destin. She suffered great injury when the oncoming car shoved the bones from the left side of her hip to the right side of her hips. :bang:

Yesterday, I had to make a trip up Hwy 395 from Seagrove, and after being front in line at the redlight, I was waiting to see what the car across the street was doing - will they turn or go straight. I was focussing so much on that car, that I forgot to look to my left where a car was still speeding readying to run the redlight and T-bone me. Fortunately, it took me a few seconds to determine that the car across the street was not turning, so when I took my foot off the brake, the redlight runner zoomed right in front of me instead of into my side. His light must have been red for at least 4-5 seconds. :bang:

It matters not that the light is green or that you are a sober driver. Look out and save your life. Please have a sober driver if you are on the road tonight. Life is much too precious.

so true sj; a lady i've worked with at the hospital for 14 yrs lost her grandson in a car accident the day before thanksgiving. he was sitting at a red light and a drunk 21 yr old driving a jeep grand cherokee hit him in the rear. she didn't even attempt to stop, it was a full speed hit, and i have never seen a car destroyed like that. he drove a 1988 gigantic buick 4 door, and she hit him so hard that the rear wheels were shoved up right behind the front wheels - they were touching ! it was a tragic senseless accident. everyone be safe this new years eve - i know we will be staying in

I have a saying which I try to remember but sometimes forget.

"A green light is permission to look both ways."

The 98 lights are dangerous.

Ditto.

I always look left and right when the light turns green because you never know what fool is going to run the red light and slam into you. I've saved my life on multiple occasions because of this practice. I'm sure in everyone's town there are intersections where you just know someone will roll through the stop sign. There's one of those near my house. It's always either old ladies (because so many live in that neighborhood) or teenagers (because it's a shortcut to the high school). I always slow down and am ready to hit the brakes there. I've saved my life literally hundreds of times by doing this, and I always warn family, friends, and guests about this intersection.

Hava a happy and safe NYE, everyone.

I am glad that you are ok SJ, and I hope your friend recovers fully very soon. Red light running is a very very common thing here in the ATL, it is very annoying too. It seems like its always the same "type" of person doing it too--moms in SUVs talking on cell phones, or the fat headed corporate clone who thinks of nothing but himself. Every accident that I have been in has been caused by someone on a cell phone, such as the one I was in last week in my new hard earned car. The Allstate adjuster told me "well there are not laws prohibiting it," and I replied true, but it is negligence to some extent and that is why there are civil claims. When I am the first one in line at the red light I always wait to see what is going to happen--the thing is if your foot isn't on the gas, 100 people blow their horns, but screw them, they do not pay for my time here on earth.

98 is dangerous. Always has been, always will be.

The lights do help tremendously, providing everyone obeys them...but, yes, always look both ways before proceeding.

I still prefer 98 over 331 (the road, not the restaurant!).
