Born and raised New Orleanian. 30 years. I am soo disappointed in the violence, murder, corruption. Steven Segal and the JPSD!!! The filth on Bourbon Street. I think I'm done!!!!

The show is good - lots of depth and a look at something we wouldn't get to see ordinarily. The parade was awesome.

There are lots and lots of SoWallers who know N.O. better than me, so I'll leave questions of authenticity and love/hate N.O. for them.
But, any show with George Pelecanos writing for it will get my attention.

I thought it started a little slow, but I am definitely giving it a chance. It is way way better than any network drama. It's a great premise and a wonderful way to showcase an amazing city post et al. New Orleans has its problems - like every other city. But it's cultural vibe cannot be replaced and is worthy of showcase. I have yet to catch the 2nd episode but part of the good and bad with HBO is I still have numerous opportunities to see it.
Part of my slight apprehension (w/ 'Treme') is due to my high praise and affinity for 'The Wire' (David Simon created or co-created 'The Wire' as well as 'Treme'). For those that are not familiar with this completed show - you should check it out on DVD. It ran for a few seasons (on HBO) and featured many of the same actors in 'Treme'. I am partial to Clarke Peters and Wendell Pierce. They are as good as it gets. I still see them in their amazing 'The Wire' characters and I cannot get that out of my head. 'The Wire' is the best TV drama I have been wrapped up in and those 2 are a big reason why. I will watch 'Treme' just for them and I am sure HBO is aware many others will also. These type shows/dramas that are so well done are a vanishing breed.

Actually yes
He's still selling the pills. In fact, he has lost something like 40+ pounds, which goes to show how big he was before.
I love the show. I think they did a great job of trying to be authentic. My observations about things that were not realistic are more for fun than trying to criticize since I do think they have done a great job.
When the chief first went to his home in the ninth ward, his lock to the metal security door worked like a charm. We had to kick all of our doors in since the locks did not work after being underwater for days. Also, the stench in our house and neighborhood (Lakeview) was unbearable. The characthers never really seemed to notice it, but we wore masks to keep from getting sick.
Also, I know it's about entertainment, but the college students who came to N.O. to help were portrayed as pretty ditzy, when in fact, these young people were incredible, and did a tremendous service to N.O.
Anyway, so far I love it and look forward to more. I fear that the street performer and his girlfriend have a lot of similarities to Adriane Hall and Zach Bowen, which was a horrific story.
