Tresca Lake, a small coastal lake, nestled between Coastal Dune Lakes Eastern Lake and Florida State Park area Deer Lake, continues to be plagued with flooding directly caused by development. Residents have contacted county authorities and relief is still missing. Not only is this an environmental problem, it is cause for concern for real flooding of homes surrounding the lake. These homes, most older and built long before this new development on the corner of 30A and Lakewood, are constantly in danger after any period of rain. The drainage system promised for the new development is not functional. The County has not fulfilled its duty. Tresca Lake has long been assaulted by development. Beachside Villas, nearly 25 years ago, blocked the south drainage area for this lake into the once magnificent dunes with tons of asphalt parking and numerous buildings. Drainage promised for that time has never worked or materialized. To make matters worse, stormwater drainage and runoff goes into the lake. During Hurricane Eliose, Tresca Lake and Eastern Lake connected, so in some ways, little Tresca is a type of Coastal Dune Lake. This was and is still not acceptable. The level of pollution and flooding to this lake is significant and the danger to homes and longtime citizens is unacceptable. Drainage from this lake into nearby Eastern Lake and Deer Lake, Coastal Dune Lakes, is also a concern from this excess and uncontrolled development storm water runoff.
