Trick or Treaters

Anyone else have this problem?

Every Halloween, parents bus their kids to our neighborhood to go trick or treating because they'd probably be shot in their own neighborhood. (I encourage this and we have fun with the little monsters and gobblins.)

About 80% of these kids are very polite, but then there are the other 20%. These kids irritate the hell out of me. They're old enough to drive, they're not wearing costumes, and they bang on the door like I owe them something. Last year, we had two pregnant trick or treaters. WTH?? :idontno:

What's he going as?!

edit: apparently, all us enquiring minds want to know. In fact, I hope all you parents give us a photo thread. :)

What are you dressing him up as?

Mrs. Landlocked figured that this year would be the last year she could do the "cute, make my son look like a girl costume" so she's dressing him up as a fat little pumpkin. I wanted to dress him as a cave man but she said I have many more years to make a man out of him. So, fat little pumpkin it is. He's 17 months old, by the way. He already points at women with big boobs and looks at me and says, "DA DA! DA DA!" :floor:

Yeah, like those waxy pumpkins (a poor mans candy corn), or heaven forbid, the Circus Peanuts!

I grew up in a big neighborhood where halloween was practically an institution, complete with block parties, big groups of kids going round together, and of course Mischief Night the night before. Sadly, we would usually TP the trees or shaving cream the mailbox of those who gave us crappy candy the year before. (well, not me so much, I was a nerd.) If you pretended to not be home to avoid giving out anything, your windows would get waxed.

Same here, if you are not in or pretend not to be in, you get eggs thrown at your house. We're always home on Halloween.

We once had nerdy neighbors. The first Halloween after they moved in, they went out but left a basket of candy with a sign that said "Don't be piggy. One piece only." I went over and grabbed a couple of handsful for myself. And would you believe they even drew a little oink oink so kids would get the message?? I wasn't sad when they moved away. (They had no kids of their own but you probably already guessed that.)

Well he looks like he would make a good pumpkin. That's too cute. You have to post pictures. I still think he's one of the cutest kids ever!

Well thank you! We think so too. I'll post pics as soon as we can. This kid is going to be the most photograped kid on the planet.

Are y'all serious about this beer thing? I may enjoy this trick or treat thing. This will be my little boy's first real door to door trick or treating.

Sure we're serious! The trick is to start out with a can of beer in your hand and then when you get to a friend's house, they see that it's empty so they give you another one. Halloween is so much fun for adults because you meet everyone out on the street and they're all doing the same as you, so you get to commiserate (after appropriate oohing and aaahing over the kids, of course). My husband and I used to fight over whose turn it was to take the kids out trick or treating. We finally decided to do shifts instead.

You do live in Montgomery...right? Gotta be careful!

Years ago (like early 70's), lived in Montgomery on Green Ridge Road. We used to hang out in the graveyard where Lurlene Wallace and Hank Williams were buried on spooky nights! Great memories! Scary as H&**!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband and friends would load up the red wagon with a "bar" for the road. Take the kids trick or treating all around the neighborhood and come back feeling very happy!

:lolabove: We pull a wagon. I guess we started with good intention, if the kids get tried they don't have to walk, but it's really for our cooler!

Yes, the red wagon is definitely the way to go! At least then you have a ride home. :lolabove:

..... they went out but left a basket of candy .....

We've left the basket of candy on the porch some years --- 'cause we both wanted to go around the neighborhood with the kids. Our 'hood is like yours, everyone's out socializing while taking their kids around. And yes there are some beer coolers rolling around behind the goblins. Halloween weather is often quite nice here in Texas.
