Friday Aug 13 2021

It's Friday the 13th people... and it's already been a busy day for your friends at SWFD. But we're not easily discouraged, your safety is our priority. That's why SWFD Beach Safety will hold a Facebook Live today at 12 p.m. C.T., to discuss potential threats to beach and surf conditions relating to Tropical Depression Fred.

As stated by our partners at US National Weather Service Tallahassee Florida, the tropical system remains disorganized, but is expected to strengthen throughout the day Friday.

We will be happy to answer questions from the public related to the weather and beach flags to the best of our abilities. We'll see you then!

Facebook Live video and storm updates can be found at South Walton Fire District Facebook page.

Aug 15 update

Some key takeaways after the US National Weather Service Tallahassee Florida briefing:

Fred is strengthening and now has maximum sustained winds of 45MPH. Additional strengthening is expected and could be a STRONG Tropical Storm at landfall. The threat of tropical storm forced winds has increased from earlier today.

Walton County is under a Tropical Storm WARNING and Flash Flood WATCH.

Threat for wind, rain, and surge impacts in our region have continued to increase. Get a plan and be prepared.

Surge predictions are still at 1-3 feet and we do not anticipate opening a shelter at this time. If impacts of both wind and/or surge present issue, we will reevaluate.
