I've been coming to Destin since I was in 6th grade for the entire summer. Made my parents come down in 2001 for my senior spring break. Discovered Seaside in August 2004. Stayed in SoWal May 2005, married in Destin Oct 2005, stayed in SoWal again in August 06 and Aug 07. The past two summers I've been down with the hubby, his parents and my parents. This year we will be bringing our 1 yr old son in October and staying at the Adagio in Blue Mt Beach. Both sets of parents are complaining that we are going to the same place each year and doing the same thing......SO.......I'm trying to put a list together for them of different places to eat and different places to go so they get excited to come this year. Help me out with any other ideas, recommendations. Also, if you know of anything that is not going on in October (like only happens in the summer season(, let me know! Thanks! New places to eat: -Bruno's or Amore' Pizza the night we arrive (we usually get Fat Daddy's pizza I think its called) -McGuire's Irish Pub (all the times we've been here......never actually made it there) -Stinky Fish Camp -Cafe Tango, D&K Cafe, Gravel Road, Borago for date night -Smiling Fish Cafe (dinner Tuesday night or lunch through week) -Red Bar (hubby and I found on last trip....last night.....a MUST for the next trip) -Blue Orleans for lunch -Dewey Destin Seafood - dinner at sundown or lunch if we rent a pontoon boat -Jambones (everyone loves good BBQ) -Fabrice's for lunch -Flip flops for lunch -Wild Olives for lunch -Hurricane Oyster Bar And ideas for different things to do: -seafood from Shrimpers or Goatfeathers to eat at the condo -get crab dip/tuna dip for lunch - who has the best? -take a cooking class at Kitchenique -dolphin tour on Waverunners in Destin -rent a pontoon boat and fish and hang out at crab island -SunQuest Cruise out of Sandestin (something my parents would like) -antiquing (I've got a list of about 20 places, mostly in PCB, including Scavangers, Fernleigh, Shaddy Oaks, Oak St Antiques, etc) -free theater and $5 movies on sunday at the Rep in Watercolor (not exactly sure where this is, but I can probably figure it out since we know where watercolor is) -reasonable price manicure/pedicure (mom and daughter fun!) - know any places for about $20 or less each? I think I paid something riduculous like $150 each for my wedding! -Watercolor Boat House and rent canoe and maybe a paddle boat??? -haunted houses in the area??? -check out view at One Seagrove Place -Crystal River, Homosassa Springs, Vortex Springs, Cypress Springs -check out 12,000 sq ft pool in Seacrest -possibly take a day trip to Mobile to see Bellingoath gardens, USS Alamaba and USS Drum, Fort Conde and Fort Morgan, Fairhope, and Oakleigh House -hang out at Bud and Alley's roof top bar and watch/bet on sundown -fish from Dan Russle Pier, Camp Helen Pier, St. Andrews Pier (PCB?) -visit and tour Weley Mansion inside Eden State Park -Choctawhatchee Delta Tours -visit Perpetual Imagination for Xmas presents for our son (stuff may be a little beyond him, not sure) -visit Big Mamas Hula Girl Gallery -and OF COURSE just hang out on the beach, swim in the pool, and drink beers in the hot tub! Obviously, we won't be doing it all......but with three different couples going in three different directions......I'd like a good list of things they COULD do so I don't have to hear about them complaining they've done it all! Who complains in SoWal?!?!?
