Pretty powerful video. Kinda corny and I am sure it will rub some wrong but it does make you wonder. I have been lurking for years and felt compelled to post this.

quick thought -- people have been fighting for their religious beliefs for a long time. This "war" didn't start "28 years ago" as stated in the clip. It started thousands of years ago.

The clip mentions that we now have a Muslim in Congress who swore on the Qur'an, and questions which he places first, the US Constitution or Qur'an, because the Qur'an says belief must be absolute. Growing up in a Southern Baptist Church, I was fed the same message, but it was regarding "God's word -- The Bible." Does that mean that all other US Congress People who swore on the Bible are against all non-Christians?

I believe it was Jesus who was noted as stating, "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone," when a women was called out for adultery.

I will again be happy when we gain our freedom and stop relying on the Gov't to provide us with false security while shredding our Constitution in the process.

I don't think that anyone here in the US can justify killing over 30,000 civilian Iraqis in addition to the thugs, in retalition from the roughly 5,000 killed in NYC. If this is war, count me out. You guys go blow up your buildings and kill people and I will find someone to join me on the beach for sunset.

We are stuck with this idiotic war of our own choosing. We will be there long after GW is home chasing Laura around the house.

Welcome to the fray Jelly. I might point out that you broke a fundamental rule in your post-there is nothing linking big oil, Halliburton or the Bush family to all that is wrong on Earth, including tainted peanut butter. Next time try a little harder:roll:

Hillary should be able to clear up all our problems!!!!:funn: Actually Hillary and Obama are going to do a great job putting another Republican in office. As if it matters (DEMS or REPUBLICANS). They are all the same crooks.

SoWal, meet Sheik Yo-Booti

Joining Cat Stevens and Cassius Clay in the list of Muslim converts, local gadfly 30-gAy announced Friday that he has converted to Islam.

30-gAy, whose new name will be Sheik Yo-Booti, said that he was inspired to announce his conversion to Islam more as a protest against those who are attempting to de-humanize an entire population. ?As a gay man, I know what it is like to on the receiving end of stereotyping. It is very easy to do horrible things to an individual of a minority group when you believe that all gay men are child molesters, all Jews are money grubbing, and all Muslims are terrorists.?

Sheik Yo-Booti added that while he does not plan to make the pilgrimage to Mecca (claiming that desert climates dry out his skin) he does plan to study Islamic art and culture as an exercise in personal enrichment and growth.

Sheik-Yo-Booti bristles at the idea that his conversion is a radical move, ?Oh please, last week I was participating in a Muskogee nation story telling festival and the week prior to that I was learning Hindi love ballads. I think sticking your head in the sand and not reaching out to people who are different from you is a far more radical idea.?

I watched the video, but I don't recall it being so "hate" oriented. Without trying to understand opposing views, how can we have a real opinion?

The idea of not watching the video reminds me of the time when Southern Baptist Leaders telling their preachers to tell the congregations to protest the movie, "The Last Temptation of Christ." My question what head honcho in the Southern Baptist Convention actually watched the film in order to have this opinion? Probably no one.

Yes, this video clip has a slant, and you will probably not like it, but it may present new ideas to an opposing opinion, which makes you ask a new question, and perhaps end up opening questions regarding war from the other side. You never know, and without opposing viewpoints and the attempt to understand others points of view, we will never grow.

Tootsie, I am not pointing fingers at you. Writing this makes me also question my on quick snap reactions to others' view points, so as much as anything, I am looking in the mirror. ;-) I keep forgetting that Dale Carnegie rule: "First seek to understand, then be understood."

I agree with you SJ, as far as opening questions and listening to other viewpoints. That is what I meant by this thread being "interesting". But, I still feel that underneath this kind of presentation is something very wrong. maybe hate or bigotry is too strong. maybe there is something to learn and gain from it. but, it doesn't smell good to me, at all.

Tootsie, I think you would not like the message, but sometimes you have to step back from it emotionally, and try to debate the subject, thereby teaching and learning simultaneously. ;-)

absolutely! if only we all interacted on that level on all matters! if only. then world peace could certainly be achieved.

so, how do we teach ourselves to debate, teach and learn, and require that our leaders have this important ability? wouldn't it be a breath of fresh air if we saw our congress debating, teaching and learning (trying to bring about long term solutions) without the republican v. democrat emotional and political baggage? if only!

I think we have to lead by example -- don't wait on gov't "leaders" to lead. They are too busy trying to get re-elected and following popularity polls. We lead our future generations by our actions. They are really good at doing what we adults do. When our children live their entire life leading, we will one day have leaders in our gov't. I think it is fairly easy to do. We just have to start with ourselves and know that we will not see the results for another 30-40 years. That is more like the old school Japanese long term thought, to which we are not accustomed, but it could be taught each day when we look in the mirror.
