Pretty powerful video. Kinda corny and I am sure it will rub some wrong but it does make you wonder. I have been lurking for years and felt compelled to post this.

yes, and I believe that a well rounded education (including the knowledge and appreciation of the world beyond your city and state and country) with a focus on being a citizen of the world, is certainly key. maria montessori's entire philosophy of education for children has its roots and aim at the achievement of world peace. she knew it would have to start with a young mind.

I am glad this thread has started a debate. I just feel we need to wake up in this country. Everyone wants to point fingers. We are the only ones that can bring this country back!!!! Not Hillary! Bush!! Obama!!! They are politicians with motives! We need to take this country back. If you think we are not at war, wake up. If you think this is all George Bush, wake up! If you think one of the next presidents will fix our problems, wake up! We are the only ones that can make the change.

I like it! So, you have a 2 million hit/month soapbox-what do we do to fix the problems

Just stand up! Ya gotta stand up, cause it's hard work. You don't just cut and run. You're either for us or against us. I believe people want to be free, and even if there's no WMD or ties to Al Qaeda, Iraq is a better place without Saddam.

If more of us would be involved in the inner workings of the political process it would be a helpful start. People have more interest in American Idol than what is happening to our country. I get upset when people begin their Republican/Democrat standoff. I see a bunch of crooks destroying a great country. THEY ARE THE SAME!
How do we fix the problems???? Good question. Maybe we start by understanding what the problem is (Corrupt politicians)!SoWal Insider
Tootsie, I think you would not like the message, but sometimes you have to step back from it emotionally, and try to debate the subject, thereby teaching and learning simultaneously. ;-)

You're absolutely right SJ.
Although the message IMO is extreme, and whether or not some of the "facts" are propaganda, people need to be aware that we are living in a different world now.
Some don't even realize that these terrorist cells are right in their own backyard. Just about a year ago, a local 7-11 was closed and the owner arrested due to ties with Al-Quaida, a place that I occasionally stopped in for coffee, but felt the hatred by the Indian proprietors and never went back to. I don't live in the city, but in the burbs.
The messge Jellybean posted may seem extreme, but don't think for one minute that Muslim extremists do not have an agenda here and worldwide.
If Jellybeans thread makes people just a little more aware to take action of suspicious activity, but doesn't encourage hatred of Muslims, then the post may have accomplished something.

Don't mean to confuse. I am just being a little sarcastic as some folks think we can sing campfire songs and get along with those that would love to put a bullet in each of our heads.

Oh, now give the Iranians more credit than that;they invented math after all. They don't need to run the numbers too much to figure out a nice little nuclear (nuke-you-lur if you wish) device would be much more efficient at wiping out a bunch of Americans (or heck, most of Israel). You're probably right, the same folks who just hosted the international Holocaust debunking summit are probably lovable and misunderstood, and ready to sit down with us and iron out our differences. I am not too worried though, the UN is about to get really tough on Iran:roll:

Were you talking about my post? because I was not suggesting we sing Kumbaya with Muslim Extremists?Jellybeans link states initially that 10% of the Muslim population are extremists/jihadists (whatever you want to call them)
From my past research, as far as Muslims are concerned, only 18% of the world population are Arabs. (I did do some research post 9-11 after losing close friends in Tower 2 and the Pentagon)
Jellybean did post a disclaimer of sorts that the link could rub some people the wrong way, but that it would make you wonder.
I feel that she may have been attacked a little too harshly. She didn't say it was her philosophy or believed everything in the link.
I don't hate Arabs or Muslims who are seeking to live peaceful lives, but I am not naive, and realize some of that 10% extremist population are sending their students to our schools to study etc. and living amongst us posing in our society.
All I was inferring was people should be more aware of their surroundings for the sake of our national security, hatred aside for an entire Muslim population.

Mango-I agree 100% with you. Sorry for the confusion. The Kumbaya choir is starting to make itself known. Oh, by the way, God help us if 10% are bad apples because that translates into who knows how many millions of nuts that need to be watched

Secret report: Terror threat worst since 9/11
By Sean Rayment, Security Correspondent, Sunday Telegraph
Last Updated: 12:30am GMT 25/02/2007
The terrorist threat facing Britain from home-grown al-Qaeda agents is higher than at any time since the September 11 attacks in 2001, secret intelligence documents reveal.
Eliza Manningham-Buller warned there are over 1,600 'identified individuals' engaged in terror plots
The number of British-based Islamic terrorists plotting suicide attacks against "soft" targets in this country is far greater than the Security Services had previously believed, the government paperwork discloses. It is thought the plotters could number more than 2,000.
Under the heading "International Terrorism in the UK", the document - seen by The Sunday Telegraph - states: "The scale of al-Qaeda's ambitions towards attacking the UK and the number of UK extremists prepared to participate in attacks are even greater than we had previously judged."
It warns that terrorist "attack planning" against Britain will increase in 2007, and adds: "We still believe that AQ [al-Qaeda] will continue to seek opportunities for mass casualty attacks against soft targets and key infrastructure. These attacks are likely to involve the use of suicide operatives."
The document, which has been circulated across Whitehall to MI5, Scotland Yard's Counter Terrorist Command, the Home Office, the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Defence, also reveals that al-Qaeda has grown into a world-wide organisation with a foothold in virtually every Muslim country in North Africa, the Middle East and central Asia.
advertisementEliza Manningham-Buller, the director general of MI5, warned recently that there were more than 1,600 "identified individuals" actively engaged in plotting terrorist attacks. There were 200 known networks involved in at least 30 terrorist plots. It is thought that the number of British citizens involved in plots could be well in excess of 2,000.
MI5 believes that soft targets, such as the transport system and economic targets such as the City of London and Canary Wharf, are most at risk.
A senior political source said the picture painted by the document was "particularly bleak and unlikely to improve for several years".
He said: "The Security Services have constantly warned that the task of countering Islamist terrorism is a daunting one. There will be more attacks in Britain."
Patrick Mercer, the Tory spokesman for homeland security, said: "This document absolutely underlines the threat and makes me wonder why the Government still has a counter-terrorist strategy that has been officially declared obsolete. It does make the Government's response look hugely complacent."
The transport system and City of London are thought to be most at risk
Entitled Extremist Threat Assessment, the document, which was drawn up this month, also discloses that Afghanistan, where more than 7,000 British troops will be based by the end of May, is expected to supersede Iraq as the location for terrorists planning Jihad against the West.
It says that al-Qaeda's influence extends from North Africa, including Egypt, through to Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan, and into Somalia and Sudan. Al-Qaeda is "resilient and effective" in Iraq, its "operating environment and financial position" in Pakistan has improved and a new group had emerged in Yemen.
"With violence in Afghanistan intensifying, and therefore receiving greater media attention, the country may well become more attractive as a venue for foreigners wishing to fulfil their Jihad ambitions", the document states.
Two years ago, western intelligence said that al-Qaeda was virtually a spent force, disrupted by counter-terrorist operations around the world.
In July 2005 the Pentagon obtained a letter written by Ayman al-Zawahiri, al-Qaeda's deputy leader, stating that the organisation had lost many of its leaders and that it had virtually resigned itself to defeat in Afghanistan. Al-Qaeda's lines of communication, funding and structure had been severely damaged.
Dr Jonathan Eyal, the director of international security at the Royal United Services Institute, said that the al-Qaeda revival was down to the West's inability to kill or capture Osama bin Laden and that wars in Afghanistan and Iraq made matters worse.
"This document clearly demonstrates a marked shift from the mood of western government only a year or two ago," he said. "It is a clear admission that the organisation is re-emerging and the reasons are that none of al-Qaeda's top leaders have been killed or captured."

Extremists of all colors and religious bents have an agenda.
Has anyone here seen the movie Jesus Camp? <shudder>
Well, we toppled Saddam and Iraq now has a democracy--sort of.
But at what cost?
I'd feel a hell of a lot more secure here at home if our military, with its unconscionable equipment shortages, was not spread out all over the frickin' place.

Extremists of all colors and religious bents have an agenda. No, that's the wrong way to think. The people of Iraq are much better off today. We have avenged 9-11 in Baghdad! We have also bribed North Korea with oil so that we can get it on with Iran. Ironic, no? All Iranians want us dead. Then we should take out Chavez, because he made the El Diablo joke. For extra measure, we should kick the Somalis' asses for Blackhawk Down, and then proceed by bombing the rubble that is Palestine and Lebanon, because these folks wanna be free. I think the Russkies and the Chinese are doing bidness with the Iranians, so they're on the short list. Dick Cheney just warned the buyers of our Great Wall of Debt to stop growing their military, because it is "aggressive" Well, I am sure these folks are hankerin' to be free. Let's free them all with Stealth fighters and B-52's. If there's any ordinance left, then we smoke Cuba, and for good measure light off an airburst nuke over Paris to show 'em we know how to stand up! Meanwhile Bin Laden is hanging out in Pakistan and no one is doing one thing about it.
