Can you please direct me to the county ordinance that granted authorities the ability to fine citizens $500 for entering federal waters? I do not mind the challenge even if it is in writing in an ordinance i know i would wipe the floor with the county in court for letting my kids get a bucket of water and wash my legs off. But i would like to review it with out having to read the entire document. Thank you very much!

What part of stay out of the water do you not understand?

Also, the water at the edge of the sand is state waters and as a subset of the State of Florida Walton county has the right and obligation to enforce health and safety laws.

In general, federal waters begin three to nine nautical miles offshore to the 200 mile limit of the Gulf of Mexico. From Texas and Florida, federal waters begin nine nautical miles out, and from Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama, federal waters begin three nautical miles out.

You'll find this essential safety ordinance on the books in Walton County, Destin and PCB as well as many other Florida beaches dedicated to tourism and beach safety. Our Lifeguards and first responders still rescuing hundreds of people weekly, putting their lives at risk all day every day. This ordinance surely cannot be an inconvenience for you. Two lives lost in South Walton last week, and three lost in Panama City Beach. People who believe they will be fine in red flag waters... regular people going out to save them end up in trouble or dead. It's not worth it.

The Gulf of Mexico can dangerous even in yellow flag calmer waters.

Better yet why don’t we save you the embarrassment of a lost court case and direct you to the state line since you do not respect local law enforcement simply trying to keep you and your loved ones safe.
There have been far too many drownings lately because people are ignoring the flag system.
It saddens every local when families leave what was supposed to be a relaxing beach vacation with a deceased loved one.

Hilarious. Go try that wiping of the floor, see what happens. You don't even know that federal water here doesn't start until 9 miles offshore.

Great answers. Some people just don't get it...they don't realize that their "entitlement " attitude could end up in tragedy for their family or for the would be rescuer. Personally, I think the fine should be $1000 .

Unreal.....I am kinda liking PCB/Bay co. thinking about child neglect charges for those that let their kids IN the water on double red flags on top of the $500 fine.
