weekend getaway suggestion

I am planning a weekend away soon. My girls are in NC and I am in middle TN. The halfway point for us is Atlanta or the mountains. We aren't huge hiking people so I am not sure about the mountains althougth we do love the water so a lake would be nice. What places would you suggest if we met in the mountains? What area of Atlanta if we went there? We do enjoy eating and shopping, but I like quiet and calm as well. Gatlinburg is too crazy for me so I need a quieter area in the mountains. If you have any good ideas or suggestions on a weekend getaway, please share them. Thanks

I'd call the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead directly (not the Ritz-Carlton generic number), see if they have any weekend packages (especially one that includes club level - free breakfast, snacks, wine/beer). Without driving, you could eat lunch at Houston's (I recommend the grilled chicken salad) and have dinner at Bluepointe. And you could shop at Lenox and Phipps! That'd help your empty nest blues. 🙂

I'm going through that right now, so I feel your pain. Seriously.

Oh, don't make me cry! Baby boy goes back to college tomorrow. And I feel like I am living on borrowed time with baby girl not far behind. :( :( :(

Oh, wait! That means weekend trips in the offing!! Big time payback for having spent the better part of my life turning my two progeny into fine upstanding young citizens!

I think BR's suggestion of a weekend package at the Ritz wonderful. You could go to Atlanta's new aquarium--it's already gotten good SoWal reviews. :clap_1: There's lots of good dining in the city, too, as an added yum yum bonus.

Believe it or not.... Some think of the Nooga as a weekend getaway. We have mountains, lakes, rivers, shopping, museums, and really good restaurants. No doubt Atl has lots more shopping.

Nooga is a great getaway. When I have family from the north down, I always take them to Nooga. I was hoping for a place halfway between Charlotte and Nashville so I could meet my girls...if they make it to the nooga , they are only 1 1/2 hours from home. When my girls were younger, we would spend the day there. Do the aquarium, then walk on the paths over to the pedistrian bridge, then across to the artsy side. Aside from the bridge, my daughter loved to dance on the sidewalk with the step thingys. Great times!

You can now walk from the Chickamauga Dam to downtown on the River Walk. (7 miles)

I'm with beachrunner - the Ritz Carlton Buckhead!! Love it! You never have to get in the car - shopping and dining right there. You might try The Terrace Restaurant (Ritz Lobby Level) or The Palm (right across the street at the Westin). Both favorites of mine. Oh and make sure you keep your eye out for Oprah (and other fun celebs) in the bar - wouldn't be unusual. Have fun. I just returned day before yesterday from the Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch - great vacation - wish you could go there! 😀

Thanks for the suggestions. Been to Pearl's and it is really good. Will print and save the restaurant ideas. Are most in the downtown area?
