The difference between patriotism and nationalism is a patriot can criticize his country, stay with it, and go through the democratic process. A nationalist needs an enemy.

Here's an article about the unraveling. I think it will be clear to more and more people that his temperament alone mkes him an unsuitable and thoroughly dangerous office holder. This is all the more reason why the Democrats should not back off or harbor any reservations about impeachment. They should worry not one bit about the possible political consequences.

Opinion | What Trump's tantrums reveal about his growing fear of impeachment

While Trump may have deluded himself into believing that this kind of bullying projects strength, I think it reveals the exact opposite. Donald Trump is afraid. This is a man who has spent the entirety of his adult life plastering his name on skyscrapers and casinos; this is a man who is obsessed with his own legacy. And that’s why impeachment is the permanent stain that Trump deserves — and one he clearly fears.

Conventional wisdom suggests that there are enough votes in the Democrat-controlled House to successfully impeach Trump, while the Senate will vote against it. But when it comes to Trump and how he is wired, it may not matter if he is thrown out of office. The fact that he would go down in history as only the third president ever to be impeached would psychologically cripple him.

Spoke to a sr former justice dept official. He too worries Trump can’t get off, won’t get off, “dictator’s treadmill.” Once you’re on the ride is high, so you’ll do anything, and everything, to keep running and not to crash and burn. I’ve seen it all my life. Never ends well

It’s becoming comical the way president* Never Truther attacks everyone who testifies as a never trumper and someone he doesn’t remember or doesn’t know. Not sure why he thinks this is an effective tactic when in reality he looks like a whining man baby stomping his feet with closed eyes and fingers in ears.

Rep. Jeff Van Drew (D-NJ) criticized the Democrat-led impeachment inquiry on Sunday, stating that it has been costing American’s time and money, and merely resulting in the fracturing of the United States. “I just think we keep going down this road – keep spending more time, you know, many of us came to Congress because we really wanted to accomplish goals, really work on issues such as health care, work on issues dealing with prescription drugs, election security, the debt, the deficit, you know, the list goes on, and I can speak on an on about all the things that we need to do.”

So 1or 2 out of 233 is what, a majority? Spend a hour reading the list of Republicans who opposed president* Never Truther.

Let’s imagine for a moment (might take a minute or two to read): You and your life partner have been together for almost six years. Unable to conceive a baby on your own, you contact a public agency to assist you with adopting a child. Though you had to prove the stability of your relationship and that you had the income, life skills and appropriate environment in which to raise a child, you eventually were able to adopt a lovely little boy. The Public Agent (PA for short) who assisted you through this very complicated and life-changing experience was wonderful and you thought very highly of them, even though you had to jump through a few hoops and, to a degree, have your privacy invaded with credit, income, employment and criminal history checks.

Three years later, you are aching for another child. Your toddler asks constantly why they didn’t have a brother or sister. After discussing with your life partner you discover they too would like to have another child. You reach out to that public agency only to find that the PA you worked with to adopt your son has moved on and no longer works for the public agency. You are assigned to Public Agent 2 (PA2) and they will guide you through this adoption. PA2 seems very kind and helpful. After about 18 months you are told that a child is available and you have been chosen to adopt them, it’s just a matter of weeks before the paperwork in final and you can take your child home. Your prayers are answered/your needs fulfilled. You tell your son a new brother is coming. The three of you shop for a crib, sheets, formula, baby food, toys, and all that a young infant needs. Your son is excited and draws picture after picture for his new brother. You tell your parents and the rest of the family. They come to paint and decorate the room, and throw you a baby shower.

A few weeks later, PA2 calls you on a Monday evening and congratulates you again on becoming a parent for the second time. There’s just one thing more, though. This child is coming internationally from XXXXXX. PA2 says The Public Agency cannot absorb the cost of the flight for the child and an attendant. I need a favor, she says. Wire $10,000 to account xyzabcxyz and then I’ll get the baby and the attendant on a plane tomorrow and you can pick up your boy at the Public Agency the day after they arrive.

You are devastated. Your partner is flabbergasted. You cannot pay $10,000 but know if you don’t the baby, your baby, will be adopted by some other family. This is terrible. What in the hockey sticks is PA2 asking? Your father screams, IT’S EXTORTION!
****
Think about this for a few minutes. Sounds awfully familiar, no? Hopefully, this story makes what the current Administration did to Ukraine a little more relatable, maybe a little closer to home.

Is my analogy simplistic/weak? Yes. Is my analogy perfect? No. But what in life is?

Surely we as Americans can insist our government do better and address, in a Constitutionally-correct way, the actions of the fictitious PA2, AND our very real elected officials (Member of Congress and Senators) including and especially Trump. (lack of honorific intended).

PA2 would be fired and tossed in the hoosegow.

Big deal, he's one of the same Democrats who voted against the inquiry. It's not going to make a difference in the impeachment vote. Whatever he does, he's damned politically. It's not going to look good for him. I believe he's trying to gauge his electability in his rather conservative New Jersey district. He's deeply hoping some new evidence will emerge that will convince even the brain dead Trumpers. In other words, he is hopelessly naive. He would be better off doing the right thing, and then trying to revive his career in some other New Jersey district.

Robert J. O’Neill, the Navy SEAL who killed Osama bin Laden, responded to Biden: “You said ‘no’ to the bin Laden raid. Then you announced ‘SEAL Team Six’ when we did it. I still had my body armor on when you turned my life around. How dare you…”

Trump's intervention in the American military justice system to pardon service members accused or convicted of war crimes betrays the rule of law, the values that make our country exceptional & the men and women who wear the uniform honorably. He is not fit to command our troops.

:nuts:Some of the most important people’s business :

To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 25 Route 111 in Smithtown, New York, as the "Congressman Bill Carney Post Office".

To amend title 11, United States Code, with respect to the definition of "family farmer".

A bill to require the Secretary of the Treasury to mint coins in recognition of Christa McAuliffe.

Nothing could be more important than renaming buildings, defining words and minting coins. Sad really. :spin:

I’m willing to bet there are some fairly serious issues in the 111 bills Mitch won’t even bring to the floor. The reason is mostly likely any new votes would be an early indicator of erosion in the GOP bloc.

I want to emphasize the number of bills Mitch will not even bring up to vote. Is this still a democratic republic? Not likely.
