I just have one question......if "the president is not above the law" and this "impeachment" is basically a trial....doesnt he have just as much right to a "speedy trial" as anyone else? I am pretty sure if I broke the law, the state prosecutor is limited in what he can ask for if he doesnt like the judge. They cant just defer prosecution (deny me a speedy trial) until the judge dies or something.

That just seems practical. However, Mitch McConnel delayed voting on Merrick’s nomination to the Supreme Court for 233 days, so no sense talking about fairness in GOP politics. If the Senate just votes without any real witnesses called, it will be obvious the FIX is in, and they are just laughing at the entire nation with a big fck you.

I think the House won’t delay the trial indefinitely, but once the president* is “acquitted”, there is absolutely nothing left to stop him from rigging the 2020 elections. He will have free reign to get all the assistance he needs from any countries he chooses. Russia should be able to funnel unlimited amounts of money and cyber assets. What is there left to stop him?

So all these people celebrating his impeachment are getting ahead of themselves. Sounds like Pelosi might be holding on to try to get Trump to do her bidding. Kinda sounds like blackmail to me.

I’m dead serious. He has lied, cheated and stolen his whole life. What is left of our government’s checks and balances to prevent him from rigging the elections? He has no morass compass, and because you blindly defend him, it appears you have no moral compass either. You clearly could care less about our form of government and you prefer an authoritarian regime. I feel sorry for you.

Anyone who has been paying attention for the last couple of years has had that explained ad nauseum. For one, it turns out he really could shoot someone on 5th avenue and continue to serve as president. Impeachment and removal is the only means of addressing a president's illegal activity. If he were subject to the reaches of our standard legal system, Mueller would have indicted him. Anyhow, with impeachment, the rules are different. The burden of proof is much lower. Unanimous verdicts are not necessary. In other words, it's an apples to oranges comparison.

We're not getting ahead of ourselves. If you want to say that technically there has been no impeachment because it makes you feel better, go for it. All I can say is that it could be construed as a power move, and it's legal. Blackmail is not legal. It's another apples/oranges comparison. The house could hold onto the articles indefinitely if they wanted to, not that I think they will. If Trump is reelected, they could send the articles to the Senate some time in his second term if conditions for conviction are more favorable. Anyway for all intents and purposes, the IMPOTUS has been IMpeached. It will be part of his shameful legacy long after his death.

I don't blindly defend Trump. There is much that he does that I don't agree with: example, the USMCA is more draconian that the NAFTA we replaced. A North American Union WILL happen. Have to get that pesky 2nd Amendment out of the way first.
So I don't defend Trump per se; it is the leftist, communist useful idiots and ideology that must be defended against, and OFFENDED, demoralized, discouraged, and defeated.
It is the Leftists who cannot win in the arena of ideas that force their viewpoints on others when they do get into power. Example: look at the now Blue Virginia General Assembly forcing draconian, non-Constitutional gun laws onto the citizens of Virginia. That, my friend, is authoritarianism on full display.
