Just noticed the commercial on TV in the Atlanta market in which Apalachicola, St. George Island, etc. (basically the Franklin County TDC) has "We're Salty!" as their slogan. What the what? That's no better than "if you feel estranged, South Walton is the place for you." What does "We're Salty!" mean? It's like saying, "If you have high blood pressure, Franklin County is not the place for you." :idontno:
Someone please explain this to me. Sometimes I can be dense.

My guess is that it has something to do with oysters, but I really don't know.

I don't eat them raw anymore after a friend died from hepatitus from them.

BR, I kind of like that slogan. The oysters from their waters are prized and to my palate much saltier than the Louisiana variety (still prefer the Louisiana oyster, though). I think the slogan implies you will not find a bunch of froo-froo fancypants wine and cheese fest types in Franklin County (as opposed to you know where...). You owe yourself a trip to Franklin County one day-you will see what I mean.

Maybe I'll have the hepatitis vaccines first. Hubby has already had them since he is a world traveler.

Those oyster beds are watched very closely...if there is even a hint of unwholesome product they shut them down. The oysters are great right now...indulge with confidence, because you're salty!

Salty means they have character, are down to earth, are a bit coarse, and are associated with the sea.
Great slogan - far better than any of ours.

Like I said, no wine and cheese types there, except for Ro-Tel dip and box win consumers. Isn't it a great slogan? Two words! Hats off to them.

Just get on youtube and type in: we're salty Franklin. It's got to do with food, oysters, lifestyle, attitude. They have a song and a video that's got a little more heart than ours but it's not that great. They get 6/10 we get about 2/10 IMO in the marketing dept. It's no contest about where I'd rather spend my time. They can have their sodium.

Maybe we could be "We're creamy!"

People are never satisfied. I hear half the folks over there are PO'd that the other slogan under consideration, "We're Peppery!" was not chosen. They paid one of the former members of "Flock of Seagulls" $75 to record a new song entitled "The F in 'Where the F am I?' Stands for Franklin".

If you've ever been to Apalach area, you know that Salty is a great term for it! in many ways - starting with the outstanding oysters which taste like the sea! the area is overall salty though - salty character all the way! If you've ever stayed at the River Inn on a weekend, you know what I mean.
I hope they aren't dropping "The Forgotten Coast"... which may not be the best marketing phrase but I love it.
but they do have their wine bars & upscale/casual dining places - they are outstanding - but not so many.
