We've found new life

Biology is about to get turned on its head as we know it. A bacteria has been found that is completely foreign from ourselves. Sci-fi was right all along. Who knows what alien forms of life on worlds vastly different from ours really exist?

NASA Finds New Life

Hours before their special news conference today, the cat is out of the bag: NASA has discovered a completely new life form that doesn't share the biological building blocks of anything currently living in planet Earth. This changes everything. At their conference today, NASA scientist Felisa Wolfe Simon will announce that they have found a bacteria whose DNA is completely alien to what we know today. Instead of using phosphorus, the bacteria uses arsenic. All life on Earth is made of six components: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur. Every being, from the smallest amoeba to the largest whale, share the same life stream. Our DNA blocks are all the same.
But not this one. This one is completely different. Discovered in the poisonous Mono Lake, California, this bacteria is made of arsenic, something that was thought to be completely impossible. The implications of this discovery are enormous to our understanding of life itself and the possibility of finding beings in other planets that don't have to be like planet Earth.

I just read it on Huff Post and was about to post! Life is very diverse! We homosaphiens are just one of many, varied paths of non-unique living material and building blocks...uh oh..., the religious right is not going to like this one bit methinks.

Thx for merging the threads, Daddy-o. I thought I was in the twilight zone for a minute. do-do-do-do... I'm still totally geeking out about this. It's so exciting, and yet, at the same time, I'm having a tinfoil hat moment. Maybe this is how they introduce the real aliens..hmmmmm Maybe Obama's birth-certificate isn't real and he's an alien...hmmmmm... I'm just sayin...... and I want to include an instruction sheet for all those who need to protect themselves...
An oldie but a goodie....stay safe out there...

Could be the first step. I wonder how religion would react to Aliens. After all the literal bible interpreters will tell you that we are the center of the solar system, universe, and go just created all the other stars and planets so we'd have something pretty to look at when the sun goes down.

"I don't know about you but I've not been so excited about a bacteria since my STD tests came back clean."

That is a pretty amazing discovery!

For me this put a little perspective on the so-called "discovery". In other words  It seems arsenic and phosphorous are chemically very similar. Similar enough for arsenic to gain entry into cells and eff things up in most cases.

It's not an arsenic-based life form : Pharyngula

I'm stocking up on arsenic antidote, because I think lobbyists for the scientific community are going to persuade industry to start poisoning are food just to see what happens. See if we mutate and adapt. Make us into guinea pigs. Them dang scientits, all they care about is knowledge. Injectable ATP is our only hope. Say yes to phosphorous!

I believe you're about 50 years behind on that theory. One word:
