Now that 331 is getting 4-laned and is poised for extensive growth we should consider scenic corridor guidelines?

This from an email about last night's BCC meeting:

:clap:no palm trees hallelujah!

Although I like cabbage palms that are sort of native to big bend area I guess none are native here.

What say you? I say they are native trees here ,wonder if Ms. Comander knows Cabbage Palm is the Florida state tree...maybe that they don't like the state flag...what do you say ?

The cabbage palm is also the state tree of South Carolina so maybe they are looking for something more unique.

I was thinking more along the lines of the long-leaf pine tree.

When it comes down to it, I guess it doesn't matter what kind of plants or trees I like. My biggest concern is safety. They need to put in a traffic light @ 3280. It's had a history of accidents. They made some changes to it a few years back which seems to have helped but 4 lanes will make it worse. A lot of people live off of 3280 and travel 331 to commute to work. In my mind this needs to be a top priority.

On another note....

To preface, I have a vested interested in the North and South side of the Bay. If SoWal doesn't want big chain stores (and I can appreciate that), send them North! I'd like to see more conveniences and economic growth in and around Freeport. Walton County needs to make a shift in it's thinking. Right now everything is locked in to 98 and it's very congested. With 331 expanding, a North/South corridor that's conducive to connectivity and growth seems to be the most logical move. YMMV.

You know years ago, I thought it was talked about of a Theme Park going in around the First American Farm area. Now that 331 is expanding maybe someone should plan for something like that and bring some jobs to the area. I think you would see Freeport and other communites benefit from it.

Then you can have Palm Trees, Magnolia's you name out there.

Then when I retire, which is going to be soon, I can get a job running Ferris Wheel or a cotton candy booth. Hey I can dream.

I remember hearing about that too. That would be perfect!

You know you'd be Park Security. No way you'd get out of that.

Since 4-lane 331 probably can't become a canopy road with oak trees, my vote is for magnolias, azaleas and well-kept palmettos. No tall palm trees. We are not South Florida, nor do we want to be.

I vote for anything that is native, doesn't require irrigation, and is not part of any theme or brand.
