I think the American people just want the government to listen to them, stay out of their lives, reduce spending and quit forcing things down our throat when we tell them we do not want it.
Pretty simple to do,just listen to the voters.......

Walk the walk,

Spoken like a true conservative. Glenda posted an article citing what the American people want- based on actual quantitative research. Without regard to the article, you post what *you* think the American people want- which is actually just what you want.

Do you have any thoughts to share about the article?

In regard to "spoken like a true consevative", I think the American people expressed what they want much loader and much clearer in the recent election than what some poll by a left leaning news network proposed. Then the results of that poll "explained" by an extreme left journalist on an extreme left website. The opposite of Fox News which definitely leans right. It sometimes appears that there is no common ground for agreement here in this forum.

I think the CBS poll is accurate - jobs and the economy are the number one issue. This is the main reason the democrats got thrown out of Congress. If republican don't heed this (they knew it back before the election, don't change the subject!) they'll be next on the chopping block.

On the Bush tax cuts, conservatives claim that preserving the tax cuts for the rich is a matter of grave national importance that must not be separated from preserving the middle-class tax cuts. Once again, the public?s view is far from that of conservatives. Sixty-four percent of respondents in a recent CNN poll either want to keep only the tax cuts that apply to families earning under $250,000 a year (49 percent) or think all the tax cuts should be eliminated. Just 35 percent endorse the idea that all the tax cuts should continue regardless of how wealthy families are.

50% of the country wants tax increases... on somebody else. On the flip side 35% want the tax cuts to be extended for all (I assume these are the tea party/cut spending types), and 15% think the tax cuts should expire (people who have jobs they're convinced they won't lose in a double dip recession?)

Ugh.

CBS poll asked what people wanted and provided us with those answers. The poll wasn't partisan in nature nor were the results. The reporting was objective.

Original poster shared the results of what Americans want based on the poll. Contrary to the article which provides quantitative findings, Walk the walk rehashes what he thinks Americans want- based on what?

Andy, it's not my job to educate you  but you could really learn a lot from 30aShopper who put politics aside and took the article and the data for face value.

I think the first (CBS) poll is pretty clear. The economy and jobs is 4X more important than the next closest issue.

I am confused by the random inclusion of the 2 CNN polls. They don't seem to have much relevance to the first poll.

Geo, with all due respect, sometimes you just don't get it. I, of course agree, that the economy and jobs are of prime concern by the electorate. But if you can read read the article on Progressives.com and then tell me it is not a slam against Conservatives I'll gladly buy the beer. Otherwise you do.

I never said the article is/is not a slam on conservatives- until now. It is a very well deserved slam on conservatives. And you and Walk the
walk provide fine examples of the behavior the article is slamming.

The article is saying-
Wake up conservatives. Your talking points and bumper sticker politics which focus on health care repeal, socialist takeover, taxes and the deficit don't represent what the American people actually want. Use your newly found power to address jobs and the economy- because that is what people want.

How fitting that both of you stubbornly continue to insist that you know what the American people want based on the what of the last election without regard to the WHY.

Once again, I refer you to the election. Nuf said until we know what the resulting answers to the issues are. Until that can be determined, I shall maintain my evaluation of the election and you can maintain yours. I do not buy Obama's evaluation of the election which I feel sure is very close to yours. And Geo, it is unlike you to be so snarky. The election must have really gotten to you as it did so many others, and, no, regardless of what you may say or think I am not gloating. I do think it was a mandate on many fronts and many issues at both the state and federal level.

I find it somewhat depressing that so few want to decrease the national debt.

The other items, jobs, economy, health care, I am all for and honestly I could give a dang who gets it done.

Don't y'all get tried of all the bickering. :idontno:

And Honestly what is with giving Walk the Walk all the Red Rep points. If you don't agree with him then simply state it where everyone can read it.

Yes he can be kinda passionate about his opinons but so are many others. I just guess he does not have a support system.

I have a great idea. Now that we know that people were pissed and voted for change we should poll them to find out what they want and why they voted the way they did. Oh wait- bad idea. You would never accept the answers.

Sorry, but despite all the squawking and gloating from conservatives about election results and how the people have anointed them king, it was just an off year election in a bad economy.

The poll she posted shows what the voters think are important and need to be the focus. Oddly enough, item #1 on the poll is also priority #1 for all of us.

The first and last sentences perfected summed it up IMO:

"More than occasionally the discussion in Washington [and the media] seems light-years removed from the public?s actual concerns."

and

"Earth to conservatives: You say you want to represent the will of the American people with your newly won power in Congress. Why don?t you start by actually listening to them?"

Maybe you just need it condensed down to a phrase that got a Democrat elected to 2 terms (who left office with a surplus BTW). "It's the economy, stupid."
