Posing this question on a Sunday night with the corporate Olympics droning in the background. What body of work do you leave this world?Great question. As I age, I fear that I have been so focused on my husband, daughter, and mother that I have not given back to the greater good as I should have. I am working on fixing that.
I do know by emails from my former students that I have been a positive influence in their lives. I have been teaching since I was 21, and I have received many thank-you notes from my students over the years.
But I would like to help people at a broader level. Like I said, I am working on fixing that, like volunteering for the American Heart Association.
I have a colleague who is about to adopt her 9th child from the former Soviet Union, many of whom have disabilities. She has one natural child. Like Mick Jagger, you'll never make a saint of me, and I don't feel compelled to save as many disabled orphans as I can. I guess that's selfish, but it would reduce the time I spend supporting my husband, daughter, and mother.
We all should consider what we can do for the greater good.
you have made a difference to many people, very cool.....

I guess the best legacy I can leave is to my sons. How to act like a man, to own up to your faults, to treat elders with respect, to be kind to others and also to help others as you can without expecting anything in return. To my daughter, to treat her kids as she was treated and always be there for them.

Little did we know just how bad it would gettrue dat, but we are built for the struggle, and happiness comes in small doses to be savored.

Profound question bob! I don't know the answer. I love Kish's. And BR you definitely have given much to your students - I know what you mean though - seems like we should do more. Supporting your family is excellent work no matter who you are. I believe in "it takes a village". If you have helped children (and students) grow and learn, then you are supporting the village and helping it flourish.

Today I did a lot of googling, I refrained from writing some snarky messages that I really wanted to write, and I seriously thought about the hibiscus word of the day:

Does that qualify?
Love it.

I hope friends, one last party (I won't be having a funeral) a slew of independent works (that's my goal for my second act if I get one) lots of scholarships and donations to local non-profits(since I don't have kids or other family), and the space I inhabited a better place.

Exciting! What kind of independent works?

Exciting! What kind of independent works?I don't know yet. My hubby has a children's series he started http://imaginationrendered.com/Tales_of_Airn.html and I would like to do something of my own when I'm not reporting. Not sure I have what it takes, but you never know unless you try. I have a couple of ideas for fiction as well as kids.
But most of all, in response to Bob's question after more thought is just to leave what and who you touch better than before you met them if possible, in whatever way possible.
