*I couldn't find all the titles and it limited me to 10 choices in the poll.

It was a close race, but I went with the elephants too. The images of those majestic creatures having their spirits broken in such a hoirrific way will haunt me for quite some time.

When I first read the title of this thread, I thought it meant your favorite MountainFilm year, and I would have said the FIRST year (2001) when I first met John R and Jimmy and got to work with them as the MF volunteer coordinator.

Beautiful memories.

I still can't believe that it's been eight years. We're getting old;-)

losing the elephants..... We have come a long way in our understanding of these amazing creatures--that they are so similar to humans in their mental and emotional capabilities--that was an eye opener.

I cannot get over the cruelty shown in this film, cannot get it out of my mind -- the abuse of an animal that really only wants the same things we want--a bonding family, freedom...incredibly emotional.

Pebble Mine, I remember when John R first started putting up his avatar and information. It really didn't hit home what a disaster was in the making until watching the film.

Thanks John and the Telluride folks for a wonderful evening.

Both the hippo and the elephant movies were very cool, but Pebble got my vote because of the salmon/lifestyle issues.

Wondered if Sowal would be a good elephant location though!

I didn't make it this year, but I did enjoy talking to Dylan of the Pebble Mine film while we were both catching lunch at Fabrice at WaterColor on Friday. Had a nice chat about Anchorage and other Alaska topics.

This year was Pebble Mine vs. Salmon. Almost peed myself when he said Caribou Barbie before the film. My favorite OF ALL TIME was the one about Coco the monkey (three years ago). I also liked the one about surfing the wave down the Nile river (maybe 5 years ago). Now that I am on a roll, The best animation film was The Man Who Planted Trees (maybe first year, maybe second).

We're glad you enjoyed the show .... I couldn't hear how many people caught the Palin Barbie reference. It was Bobo, the Sumatran monkey, who appeared in "Gatherers From The Sky" in our first year, 2001 [but maybe we reprised it several years ago? can't remember]. "Pororoca" depicts surfing the bore-tide wave pushing up the Amazon.

And, "The Man Who Planted Trees" remains one of the most enjoyable & important MountainFilms of all time. Look for a special retrospective show for our 10th year, in 2010.

And, as always, thanks for all your fine feedback.

Ahh.... Bobo, the coconut gathering monkey. What was the one about the singer from the Himalayas (Tongan singing maybe??) a few years back. That was one of my favorites. And what is the emcee's name?

How come we never see any of these great films on TV? :idontno:

Considered the complete sheet and number of reruns that are on most of the time, I would think they would win their time slots handily.

Unfortunately they don't have "commercial" appeal. However I have seen one or two on the Sundance channel. That would be a pay channel.

Why don't they have commercial appeal? :idontno:

IMO since people already pay 2-3x a movie ticket to see them in bunches, they would watch them for free on TV.

I mean that they don't have mass appeal. Did you notice the absence of Nascar apparel and foam fingers Friday and Saturday night?

"Genghis Blues" featured the Tuvan throat singer, Kongar-Ol Ondar, and the late Paul Pena of San Francisco.

Thank you! I forgot about that one! So good. So good. And thanks for the corrections, my head is not in the game these days. Amazon/Nile, I just remember it was a big river far away that I never ever want to see BobbyJ surf!
My vote is to bring Bobo back for another festival. He's a crowd pleaser for sure.
