Thinking it would save someone's feelings, knowing, however that if the lie was revealed, it would devastate your relationship with that person?

Depends, if it's something trivial like their clothing or choice of makeup yes; however if it were something more serious like an obvious alcohol problem, drug addiction, or other life threatening issue then no.

That's your second fork in the road question today. Both are interesting. First there was the science/art (if you had to choose).

Hell yes you lie. If you don't you immediately ruin the person and your relationship. You want to postpone that as long as possible. There's a chance that the lie will never be revealed, and all will be well. I'm assuming that there is no real benefit to telling the truth in this case, other than to avoid being caught lying later. In other words the truth will not help the person with his or her life in any way.

Personally, I prefer honesty. I cannot hate to be lied to. The truth I can handle, a lie I cannot. I guess you have a decision to make!! Good luck!!

Does it make a whistling noise when he breathes? That might get annoying as the evening progresses and the breathing gets heavier. Tough call.:idontno:

Most annoying, but for some reason, funny, too!

No, mainly because lying takes so much more effort than telling the truth.

If they are truly your friend they will appreciate the truth - though tact and timing are always key.

There are definitely times when it is appropriate to lie but you have to weigh long and short term consequences as well as the odds of getting caught lying. Getting caught is the worst because not only does he/she know the awful truth, he knows you're a pucking liar. But if you know you won't get caught and the truth serves no useful purpose, then you need to draw on everything your parents taught you  and come up with a doozy. Seriously, psychologists say that people who lack the ability or willingness to lie under any circumstances, may have a mental defect. Lying is a natural innate ability and it's as important for normal development as is speaking, walking, and reading. Think of all the times you've said "Sure I'll be there", and then you don't show up. LIAR!!!! Then you come up with some flimsy excuse. LIAR!!! Lynnie, this post is not aimed at you in particular (LIAR!)
