In the 1940s and 1950s families that visited SoWal every Summer stayed in quaint cottages – some were simple and practical concrete block homes that stayed cooler on hot days and defied the elements. Some of the getaways were wooden shotgun shacks moved down to the beach from Old Point Washington where they had housed workers when lumber was booming.
Life was simpler then and air conditioning was nonexistent. SoWal has boomed since then and Old Seagrove has spread down the beach to offer many more accommodations, including condos on the beach and just off the beach.
Beachcrest offers amazing views of sunrise and sunset.
