Miramar Beach is The Best of Both Worlds

January 5, 2016 by Richard Olivarez

In our area, we are fortunate to have two premier beach destinations that merge almost seamlessly together. While they are neighbors, each offers a unique experience. The remarkable communities of which we speak are, of course, South Walton and Destin.

South Walton is comprised of a varied collection of “towns” that nestle predominantly along Scenic Highway 30A. Each offers their own interpretation of a life well lived by the beach.

Rosemary Beach

Here you’ll find the distinctive architecture of meticulously planned communities, as well as some eclectically developed neighborhoods whose preeminent characteristic is charm. Shops and restaurants are locally owned and the arts permeate all aspects of life. Nature abounds and the beauty found on and off the beach is breathtaking.

 Destin

Just a few miles to the west you’ll find Destin – the household name and much-loved destination of generations of beach-going families. With a rich heritage steeped in the historic fishing along its vibrant harbor, there’s limitless fun to be found on the water.

Off the water, there are plenty of opportunities for adventure and exploring local culture. Fresh seafood is a big draw, and the eateries that specialize in it are unpretentious and charming. The variety of accommodations is limitless and soaring high-rises majestically stand sentinel along the coastline.

 Miramar Beach

Between these sister enclaves you’ll find Miramar Beach. Technically this town is in South Walton. However, no doubt due to its close proximity, many visitors consider this area to be a part of Destin. For anyone who’s ever vacationed in Miramar Beach, they know it’s the perfect union of both – and its own place all at once.

Like South Walton, Miramar Beach embraces art, culture and nature. A profusion of exciting events and festivals are found here year-round, including events focused on food, wine, art and fashion. It’s also a shopper’s paradise. One of the largest designer outlet malls in the country is hosted here, as are several upscale lifestyle centers that boast luxury brands and some of the nation’s top restaurant chains.

Sailing the Gulf of Mexico

A nod to Destin, opportunities for fun on the water are boundless.  Miramar Beach is snuggled between the Gulf of Mexico to the south and the Choctawhatchee Bay to the north. Of course the white sand beach is the star of the show, but the emerald green water that lies just beyond is its perfect complement. Jet skiing, parasailing, sailing, stand up paddle boarding and so much more await your discovery. On the bayside, inshore fishing, boating and kayaking are abundant.

Accommodations in Miramar Beach are comprised predominantly of vacation homes and the entire town fosters a family atmosphere. For good measure, Miramar Beach is also home to a diverse selection of condominiums – the majority of which are low to mid-rise complexes.

And while there’s plenty to do in Miramar Beach, both Destin and the rest of South Walton are literally only minutes away. Now that you’ve discovered where the best of both worlds converge, when should we expect you?
