Reception and Exhibit Opening for Local Artist Joan Vienot Nov 2
October 24, 2013 by SoWal Staff
Local artist Joan Vienot will debut an exhibit of paintings at Grayt Grounds of Monet Monet in Grayton Beach with a reception on Nov. 2 from 5-9 p.m. Everyone is invited to come out and join friends and the art community for this special evening event in the gardens. Joan's art exhibit, "The Present Moment", will be on display at Grayt Grounds from Nov. 2-17.
Joan Vienot has been “making pictures” for as long as she can remember. In the second grade her artwork was selected and published in the hometown newspaper. Despite being “mortified” that her classmates had their stories published and she was “singled out” to show her crayon drawing of John Glenn’s historic orbit, that shock of recognition led the artist to pursue her passion.
In 1977, Joan completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Northern Colorado where she double-majored in Fine Art and Health/PhysEd/Recreation. Joan transitioned from student to teacher when hired to fill the role of her own high school art instructor who retired that same year. Her work there included teaching drawing, painting, and commercial art as well as coaching both the girls’ swimming and junior varsity basketball teams.
Joan relocated to Seagrove Beach, Florida in 1980, where she showcased her signature coastal watercolor paintings in a Grayton Beach gallery owned by photographer Susan Foster. For the next 20 years, Joan’s business enterprises would take her out of mainstream art and into other ventures.
Joan's artistic spirit was later rekindled during a hiking trip to Peru. Taking local figure drawing classes fanned the flames of of her passion. Joan has come full circle and is practicing fine art, much of it plein air, or open air and in the moment, painting, still life drawing and painting, and nature photography.
Joan enjoys painting with members of Emerald Coast Plein Air Painters. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA), serves on CAA's A+Art Committee, and teaches classes and private art lessons. Joan’s studio gallery is in Point Washington, Florida.
