Is anyone on the boards able to report on the Sheriff's Deputies chasing a Parole violater somewhere in Pt Washington yesterday? I heard reports of the Sheriff's helicopters involved in the search. I heard that they did capture the guy, but there is very little word on the street.

This morning, Sheriff's Deputies were still combing the area.

Peaboy, that sucks about your dogs getting peppersprayed. Maybe the guilty party was in your yard, where your dogs may have been a threat. I certainly hope that the person who sprayed them was not doing it just because they could. If so, we certainly wouldn't want that person to be carrying a gun and following behind us with lights flashing.

If it was a Sheriff's Officer, shouldn't the Sheriff's Office be able to tell if an Officer's pepper spray had been fired?

I know that there are a good many great individuals on our Sheriff's staff, but boy-howdy, doesn't it seem like they are lacking some serious leadership?

Would it have hurt to have publicized this just a tiny bit? You know, if this is a local gentleman, and nobody knows he's on the run, he could just show up at his relative's house to hang out for a while and they'd have no idea they were harboring a fugitive (and likely to get their dogs pepper-sprayed).

Peaboy, I'm sorry about your dogs. I hope they (and you) are recovering well.

Shouldn't the cops carry some flyers around with the guy's description and most recent photo, and pass them out to people they see in the hood? Or, am I just watching too much television? I mean, if this guy came knocking on my door, I would want to be able to recognize him before I answered the door.

This is all the Walton Sun has to say (it wasn't even considered "Breaking News"):

UPDATED: Manhunt at Eden winds down
December 20, 2006
Gwen Break

The hunt for a man that first led deputies on a high speed chase, has wound down. It is unknown at this time as to whether the man was captured.

Around noon Wednesday, officers attempted to stop a black Dodge Ram truck but the truck accelerated and the chase was on.

The chase started on or near East Point Washington Road but then veered off onto a dirt road where the suspect eventually stopped and fled on foot leaving his female companion behind.

According to unofficial sources, a helicopter spotted Raymond Shaw, as he exited the water near Eden State Park but were unable to pinpoint his location.

Search dogs and officers from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission joined the searched.

No word from the sheriff's office as to why the man fled and whether he was captured or not.

Mr. Supermom said it was a black dodge charger 2006, no fat rims (not a rt).

Ok Bobby J, I guess I will chime in now. Yes, I am well aware of the chase and the fugitive. The man hunt continued through private properties. Including mine. I am working with the sheriffs department to find out who, but someone seemed to have pepper sprayed two of my older dogs. Both over 13 years old and both in a fenced yard unable to attack anybody.

To make matters worse, whomever did this to my boys did not put us on notice. When I came home Wednesday night, as usual, I loved on my dogs, showering them with hugs and kisses. I was then overwhelmed with buring in my eyes, nose, ears, and entire upper body. I noticed that my hound dog could not open his eyes. I them could not open mine.

Rachel called the sheriffs office to find out info, while I showered off. Big mistake as pepper spray runs and activates with the addition of water. After several hours we were in touch with the proper men at the sheriffs department. They then told me not to shower and to use cold rag to get the spray off of my face. A bit late.

We were not put on any notice that they sprayed my dogs and that they thought a suspect was on our property. We are still working with the authorites to find out more info. We are greatly disturbed over this issue.

However, I can not say who did this as the sheriffs office has yet to confirm that they were involved.....

as of last night, the suspect was still at large according to the sheriffs department.

:pissed: This makes me so mad about what happened to your old dogs. My dog is nearing 13. That is the way the cops are here, they do not own up to anything they do like that. Every time it is justified. I hope you took care of them and that they are ok. Poor pooches. :(

butter and diet seven-up (or diet sunkist) next time instead of the shower - don't get it into your dog's (or your own) eyes and watch out for run-off from face/head getting into eyes

effects will die down and there will be no permanent damage but watch out for cataract development down the road

doggies and kitties can use straight saline eye drops but not the redness-out kind

same for skunk spray or beetle squirt

there's nothing like volunteering at a vet clinic for experience in dealing with life

That's no joke.
