Hello SoWal people - as of now, a Mobile area landfall would bring us plenty of wind, rain, and heavy surf to South Walton. The next 24 hours will tell us much more about the strength and direction.

Walton County Emergency Management has lots of good info about preparations and plans for storm events.

As of October 7, 2026, Tropical Storm Isaias is over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, off eastern Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. It is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane Thursday and could reach at least Category 2 strength by Friday evening. The most likely forecast currently calls for a Category 2 hurricane near landfall, though wind shear could affect its strength.
The storm is expected to track generally east, then north, with potential landfall along the northern Gulf Coast—from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle—late Friday or early Saturday. The exact track and timing remain uncertain. Main threats include storm surge, damaging winds, and heavy rain; locally, rainfall could reach 10 inches, with flooding possible well inland across parts of the Southeast.

If you’re in the Gulf Coast region, keep monitoring official forecasts and local alerts, and have hurricane plans ready. Never drive through floodwater.

Walton County Beach Access Update: Beaches Open, Some Amenities Remain Limited

Whether you call Walton County home or are visiting from out of state, there’s good news: Regional Beach Accesses listed below have an open route to the beach. You may notice cleanup crews, ongoing repairs and some temporary closures as work continues.

Before heading out, here’s what to expect at each location:

Inlet Beach

  • Restrooms and all three dune walkovers—central, east and west—are open.
  • The central ADA-accessible walkover is open.
  • Power and water are on, and the beach flagpole is operational.
  • Debris is minimal, and beachgoers are using the beach.

Ed Walline

  • The dune walkover is open, including the ADA-accessible route, with sand removal continuing at the bottom.
  • The beach accessibility mat has not yet been reinstalled, which may affect access onto the sand.
  • Restrooms are closed, and power remains out. Water is on.
  • The beach flagpole is operational, and crews are removing debris.

Gulfview Heights

  • Restrooms and the dune walkover are open.
  • Power and water are on.
  • Crews are removing debris.
  • The beach flagpole needs repair. Please check current beach safety conditions before entering the water; the absence of a displayed flag does not mean conditions are safe.

Santa Clara

  • Restrooms and the dune walkover stairs are open.
  • The ADA-accessible dune walkover is closed. Beach access is currently available by stairs.
  • Power and water are on, and the beach flagpole is operational.
  • Crews are removing debris.

Scenic Gulf Drive

  • Restrooms, dune walkover stairs and the ADA-accessible walkover are open.
  • The stairs need a minor repair, and sand removal continues at the bottom of the accessible walkover.
  • Power and water are on, and crews are removing debris.
  • The beach flagpole needs repair. Please check current beach safety conditions before entering the water.

Miramar Beach

  • Restrooms and the east dune walkover are open.
  • The middle and west dune walkovers remain closed. Please use the east walkover to reach the beach.
  • Power and water are on, and the beach flagpole is operational.
  • Crews are removing debris.

A few reminders for your visit:

Please give crews room to work, follow posted signs and stay clear of closed walkovers. At Santa Clara, Scenic Gulf Drive and Miramar Beach, trash collection is currently available only on the upland side of the access, so please carry your beach trash back with you.

An open beach access does not necessarily mean safe swimming conditions. Always check current beach warning flags and safety guidance before entering the water.

Thank you for your patience as crews continue cleanup and repairs. The beach may look a little different right now, but there are open places to enjoy Walton County’s shoreline.

Anyone know the status of the new Seagrove Beach Regional access? Or any neighborhood accesses?

Wow that was intense. How did everyone hold up? Any damage? I'm afraid our neighbors to the west got hit hard. I imagine we have a lot of beach erosion but not too much structural damage. Anyone have power?

Two trees down in the driveway and one in the yard but house ok!

Power was restored today at Cassine Station in Seagrove and Hidden Beach Villas in Seagrove. The Chelco outage map shows a lot of improvement in the Seagrove Area, but can't personally vouch for accuracy. Be interested to hear if local businesses have power.
