Just got a call from someone stating it looked like Banktrust got robbed.
That's where the law, EMS and Fire Engines were located.

Only a dumb crook would try to rob a bank in location where there is always a traffic jam.

Which means he was transported seven miles and two years from the BankTrust, since the Cotton Produce stand hasn't been there for two years....

The old man (Mr. Cotton?) is in a small stand on 331 almost to the intersection of 331 and 20, on the west side of 331. He has been there since the old stand closed. He doesn't sell as much as the old place- looks like mostly tomatoes and strawberries, melon in the summer.

local news report this morning is very vague. The stated that a elderly man, name withheld, was found, apparently beaten. A small amount of blood was found at BankTrust.
Jdarg is spot on regarding Cotton's newer relocation. I sure hope it wasn't Mr Cotton. That is a cool man that will take you back in his time machine if you let him.

Man Believed Beaten in Freeport

Monday, April 09, 2007 - 03:32 PM

"Freeport, Fla - BankTrust employees found blood at the entrance door of their Freeport bank at 8:00 Monday morning, then called authorities. Next door, at around 9:30, neighbors found a man unconscious and bleeding under a canopy of a fruit stand. Now Walton County sheriff officials believe the man may have been attacked. Officials say they lifeflighted the unidentified man to Sacred Heart hospital where it's unclear whether the man will survive from his wounds. Caprice Caliendo and Billy Martin say they discovered the wounded man under the canopy when they walked near the fruit stand. "He was shaking like a leaf," says Martin, of the unconsious man. "He had blood all over his hands and he was shaking like, you know, he was having a siezure," added Caliendo.
The witnesses say the man appeared to be in his 50's, and they found him stripped down to his underwear. Authorities say they they are still investigating what happened to the man, and are not releasing his name until next of kin are notified."

Old man Cotton is no longer in his 50's, so if the story is accurate, it isn't him.

What's a boiled peanut? :idontno: why boil them?

This really upsets me. Why would someone beat a person senseless at a fruit stand old or young? How sad. :(

that is the most tragic story i've ever heard :( are there any updates? is there anything we can do for him as a community? his sense of safety and security must be demolished :( bless him :(

in nyc recently there were two instances of old ladies robbed and beaten and they've established a reward fund and started some watches for buildings where the elderly live. maybe we should consider something similar.

even if we can't ensure their safety, we can ensure them we care.

Diane, of course Hop was kidding- many of us had been getting tomatoes from Mr. Cotton for awhile, and had been discussing tomatoes. You weren't in on the original conversation, which covered several threads during this time. We are all delighted to hear about Mr. Cotton's recovery, Hop too I am sure. Don't jump to conclusions when you are "late to the party" so to speak.

To try and straighten this thread, Mr Cotton was not involved in that incident. The Sheriff's Dept just found blood at Mr Cotton's stand, and without knowledge of what happened, we were concerned that it might be Mr Cotton, who had been found beaten.

Not everyone stays on top, of all threads. My comment was re: a new viewer/member, or those that haven't been necessarily following, this thread. I would imagine that there are others like myself, that felt the comment was a little distasteful, to say the least!:idontno: I am glad to hear that you felt the comment, wasn't serious. That would be a pretty cold, individual!:( Like you, this is just my opinion and I'm entitled.

Diane4145, I to was taken back by the post, But figured since none of the Posting Gods jumped it I decided to let it pass. I as you, do not have the time to read so many post, I have noticed that there are a few that could more than likely bring you up to speed on any subject matter on this Board. I am not bashing anyone here, just seems like a simple "Its ALL Good the thread has had some humor in it in the past, Get a chance and are still interested in this thread you might find where so and so might feel safe to say that" ;-)

But than I am just a simple nobody that has opinions and some like ummm and some don't. :idontno:

I hope your Holidays are Wonderful for you and your family, Gods Blessings on you and yours.:D
