I posted this on another thread, but wanted to start a separate one in hopes of consolidating some thoughts about group effort in the Katrina aftermath:

We should be at our house for Labor Day (probably to clean up). Hope to see some of the SoWalers then.
Indeed you will see many SoWal'ers. I expect that the theme of the "party" has changed dramatically, as SJ hinted a week ago that it might, to one of community, compassion, caring, and volunteerism. That is the true spirit of this board, of which I am proud to be a member.

At the appropriate time, I am sure there will be posts about where/when/how we can all (local and remote) help in the relief and clean up effort. Let's write (and mail) the checks to Red Cross, make our time, labor, skills and homes available as needed, and generally pitch in for the greater good.

I can't think of better labor on Labor Day. Godspeed to all.

You have truly captured the spirit of this board...I plan on sending my check today.

A day to give thanks, to be sure. We were afraid to turn the news on this morning, but NO/MI/AL seemed to have fared better than feared. For those interested, you can make a contribution to the effort by going on-line to:
