O.K. folks I make things for a living. The religious fanatics were banging on the door ever day through the holidays. So I made a Cult members only sign. Bingo they stopped banging on the door. So today at 3:15 some A--HOLE pulled into the driveway and stole the sign. My wife was looking out the windows and called the cops. This A--Hole was wearing a bright yellow shirt driving a blue Honda CR-V. he was tall and had black hair. She got a good look at him. Anyways anyone that knows me knows what will happen to the poor sap if I get a hold of Mr. S--T for brains. 30-A is faster than the INTERNET, so hopefully he will be found fast. Bottom line is that thieves are the scum of the earth in my book. :bang: :banned: :ninja: Thieves have been doing broad daylight stealing from east to west Pt. Washington and Grayton. Hope somebody finds him! Thanks ALL.

I am very skeptical about "religious" people ringing our doorbell and trying to "save" us. (I am also really tired of them bothering me by ringing the doorbell and me having to deal with them. I never open the door for fear that they'll overpower me and rush in to rob us.) Almost every Sunday we play in the strings group at the big Methodist church in town, so they don't need to save us, thank you very much (even though we can't totally buy into the virgin birth story  ). They mostly visit at times when one is likely to be out of town (school holidays, summer, etc.), so we think they are casing the house to see if we're gone and can rob us (as many of you know, we've already had one home invasion). I posted a sign on the sidelights by our front door:

GET OFF OUR PROPERTY!
UNLESS YOU ARE A FRIEND,
FAMILY, OR USPS/UPS/FEDEX,
YOU ARE TRESPASSING!
DO NOT BOTHER US BY
RINGING THE DOORBELL!
WE HAVE A GUN, AND
WE KNOW HOW TO USE IT!

We had a home invasion. They cut the phone lines so that the alarm system wouldn't call the police. Part of their M.O. was that they'd watch a house from the woods in the back yard for activity. If they didn't see activity and noticed just one car, they assumed the owners were absent. Well, Big D was in Tokyo, so his car was at the Atlanta airport, and BJ and I went to bed early because it was just before exams, and I had worked my butt off getting my final projects, study guides, and exams ready for my students.

The burglar alarm went off when they broke down the back doors, it woke me up, I unsuccessfully tried to reset the alarm, and I attempted to call the police for help BUT THE PHONE LINE WAS BROKEN! We ran down the stairs, saw the back of the house broken down, ran to the car, ran back to the house to get the poodles, and drove to our neighbor's house across the street to get help. Unfortunely, the last flight from Tokyo had left, so Big D couldn't get home for two days. My brother drove from Newnan with his gun, and we sat by the broken down doors with guns all night long in case the burglars came back. We shot off a few rounds just for fun and to scare them in case they were waiting back in the woods to re-enter.

So, yeah, to make a long story short, I am very defensive about protecting my family and my property. And, yes, we now have backup systems so in case the phone lines are cut or either AT&T or the cell phone is out, the alarm system can still notify the police.

This would be so terrifying. But tell me, did the police ever come??

Yes, after about 15-20 minutes. But if we hadn't escaped from the house, we would have been dead or raped. The female burglar got out of jail after 5 years, but the two male burglars are still in jail because they raped the women in homes that they thought were empty but weren't.

I figure that if someone breaks into your house, even if the alarm dials the police department, by the time the police get there, you'd be dead if the perpetrator were so inclined. That's why we sleep with a couple of guns in a lock box by the bed. Hubby prefers a Beretta; I prefer a revolver.

i think what bothers me the most is the fact that you could have a cross in your front yard and they still show up and say "but are you worshiping the right cross?" and why is it that they cruise chat holley or pt washington. why not Watercolor or Seaside?

Actually, they do cruise Seaside. I was approached in Seaside a few weeks ago, then in Grayton, the following week.

This is a total nightmare Beach Runner!!!!!! We had a home invasion when I was about 7 and my Dad was out of town. It was a teenage boy that lived down the road from us. It is the most awful thing to go through. I'm glad to hear these people were caught and ya'll are okay. Although the trauma can be an ongoing thing.

Yes, people can be raped and/or murdered before the police can get there. Gosh look at that incident in Connecticut where the mother was taken to the bank then strangled, and the 2 daughters tied up and raped in their own bed....then died of smoke inhalation. This is so sick. I can't get over the father making it out just in time.:idontno: And if the police had made it 5 minutes faster they would probably be alive...the girls.

Stay safe peeps!!!!!

What sick people and in full daylight. Was there a car at your house? Can you imagine he did this knowing you were home. It's crazy. A blue Honda CR-V...hmmmm someone is going to know this car and the description of the thief!!!!! Could she tell how old he might have been?

BJ was 8 when this happened. It was a defining moment in her life in terms of realizing that she could never feel safe any more. The perps in this case were the daughter and son-in-law of one of my colleagues. The father thinks his daughter is innocent (let's see, she spent 5 years in jail -- obviously the criminal justice system didn't agree). What's creepy is that I went to their wedding, they knew that my husband was in Japan the weekend of the home invasion, and they knew that BJ, the poodles, and I always stayed with Mom in Atlanta if my husband was out of town on weekends.

I think you two should check the Red Bar & 331 to see if your signs are hanging up there. :D I seem to remember the sign for Georgie Street going missing a few years back, and low & behold it showed up at the Red Bar a few weeks later:idontno:

when did break in/burglary become a home invasion?

My understanding is that a break in/burglary occurs when the occupants are not there, and a home invasion is when someone is at home. As in "Burglars made off with a refrigerator and a collection of baseball cards" versus "A would-be burglar was shot during a home invasion."
